Jan Oblak, Atletico Madrid – seven points
The 25-year-old Slovenian has continued to grow in stature at the Spanish club and was again a valuable member of the Atletico Madrid team in their comfortable 2-0 weekend win.
Oblak now sits on 16 clean sheets in 24 games, becoming the highest points scorer in La Liga with 109 points.
Juanpe, Girona – nine points
Girona have had an impressive season across 2017/18, currently sitting in eighth in the league having only been promoted to the premiere Spanish division last season.
The 26-year-old has amassed 32 points this campaign, with him winning seven clean sheets this season – playing a valuable role in the team’s rise in prominence in Spanish football.
Jordi Alba, Barcelona – nine points
Barcelona ran out 2-0 winners in their away trip to Eibar, with Alba grabbing a late goal in the outing.
Alba now has an impressive 84 points – the most of any La Liga defender.
Sime Vrsaljko, Atletico Madrid – five points
The 26-year-old Croatian has had to be patient for opportunities since his move from Sassuolo, due to the form of Juanfran but put in a solid performance in their win over Bilbao.
Vrsaljko now has 45 points for the season, highlighting the growing significance that he has in Diego Simeone’s squad.
Victor Laguardia, Alaves – five points
The 28-year-old has played a less than prominent role for Alaves this season, having made just six appearances in 2017/18.
However, his exploits in the side’s 1-0 win over La Coruna saw him earn five points in a performance that suggests he still has a role to play for the 15th placed side.
Sergio Canales, Real Sociedad – eight points
The 27-year-old has hit a good patch of form in recent games, hitting our team of the week on a couple of occasions.
The Spanish midfielder netted in his sides 3-0 win over relegation threatened Levante as they rose to 12th in the league – allowing him to hit 24 points for the season.
Marco Asensio, Real Madrid – eight points
The Spanish international is continuing to grow in importance in the Madrid midfield, with him playing a significant role in Zidane’s efforts to turn around a poor season for the club.
His brace in the 5-3 thriller away to Real Betis saw him collect eight points on the weekend, seeing the 22-year-old to 42 for the campaign.
Portu, Girona – six points
The 25-year-old is another member of the Girona squad that has played a prominent role in their growth as a La Liga team.
Portu netted the second goal in the Spanish side’s 3-0 win over Leganes, scoring his ninth of the season for the newly promoted team.
Xabi Prieto, Real Sociedad – six points
The 34-year-old has been at Sociedad for a whopping 18 years, amassing an impressive 477 league appearances in that time.
Despite entering the twilight years of his career, the Spanish midfielder is continuing to play a prominent role for the club – having won 31 points thanks to his three goals and five assists this season.
Christian Stuani, Girona – four points
The Uruguayan striker has been a revelation for the newly promoted team, having joined from English side Middlesborough, for whom he had an inconsistent couple of years.
The 31-year-old grabbed the first in his side’s 3-0 win, netting confidently from the spot to put him on 13 goals and 45 points for the season.
Kevin Gameiro, Atletico Madrid – six points
Gameiro might have felt that his opportunities at Atletico would be at a premium following the January return of Diego Costa but he has continued to prove his value to the team.
The Frenchman has a respectable five goals and two assists in fourteen appearances this season, helping his to 24 points this season.
