In a weekend in which Barcelona took a huge step to words securing the Spanish league title, it is perhaps a surprise that none of their stars were able to work their way into our team of the week. However, a plethora of clean sheets and stand out individual performances from the players of Girona and Sevilla have seen the two clubs dominate the XI. Check out our team of the week here!

Bono, Girona – 14 points

The Moroccan goalkeeper enjoyed a fruitful week for Girona as his side overcame Celta Vigo 1-0 before landing a fine 2-0 victory over high flying Villarreal.

The two clean sheets saw him hit eight in 19 for the season as his side rocket up to seventh position, putting them in a serious shout of securing European football next campaign.

Carles Planas, Girona – 12 points

Planas has had a frustrating season, making just five appearances in total, but used the opportunities presented to him this week to exemplify why he can be so important to the side.

The Spanish left back secured an all-important assist for his side in the 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo, just his first of the season, as his side saw out an important 1-0 victory as their season begins to truly hot up.

Jonas Ramalho, Girona – 10 points

Another member of the Girona back line to have come out of the week’s action with a number of points under his belt, Ramalho has been a stalwart for the Gironistes this campaign.

With seventeen appearances and eight clean sheets, the 24-year-old centre back has become a vital member of the team for a number of seasons now.

Simon Kjaer, Sevilla – 10 points

The Dane has had a mixed first campaign at Sevilla, with the side showing flashes of brilliance intercut with periods of significantly poor form.

Two victories have seen many of the Sevilla side enter this week’s best eleven, with Kjaer one of many to benefit from a brace of clean sheets.

Clement Lenglet, Sevilla – 10 points

The French centre back also sees himself enter our La Liga team of the week, having also benefited from Sevilla’s consecutive centre backs.

The 22-year-old has managed 10 clean sheets and an impressive three goals this season as he continues to establish himself as one of the best young centre back talents in European football.

Franco Vasquez, Sevilla – 10 points

The Argentine-born Italian international set up Muriel’s opener against Athletic Bilbao before netting one himself just five minutes later.

Vasquez has three goals and five assists for Sevilla this season, a reasonable return from a campaign in which he has made just 15 appearances.

Javi Eraso, Leganes – 8 points

The 27-year-old started the week with a difficult start, his side having been thrashed at the hands of Atletico Madrid, but he bounced back with a stellar performance in his side’s 2-0 victory over rock bottom Malaga.

The Spaniard scored and assisted as his side finished the weekend in 13th position, as he hit the 38 point mark for the season.

Portu, Girona – 10 points

Having scored in the side’s midweek victory over Celta, the attacking midfielder then teed up Lozano’s strike away to Villarreal – highlighting his influence in this exciting side.

The Spaniard is in the midst of a fantastic season, having scored 11 and assisted a further three goals, a run of form that may well be turning the heads of some of European football’s bigger clubs.

Geoffrey Kondogbia, Valencia – 8 points

Having joined on loan from Inter Milan over the summer, following a period of his campaign in which he failed to deliver his very best.

However, a change of scenery has proven beneficial for the Frenchman with him scoring four goals and amass 25 points across the season as Valencia vie for a Champions League spot.

Antoine Griezmann, Atletico Madrid – 17 points

The Frenchman may be stinging from the defeat to Barcelona that has effectively ended any chance of a league title this campaign but he can take pride in his own performances of recent.

His four goals in the midweek thrashing of Leganes exemplified what he is capable of delivering and put him on the 72 point mark for the season having netted 15 in 24.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid – 8 points

Ronaldo has reaffirmed why he is considered to be one of the greatest of all time in recent weeks, scoring goals with aplomb having come through a lean few months – hitting the net twice during the weekend’s action.

The Portuguese striker now sits third in La Liga’s goal scorer standings having hit 16 goals and four assists for the campaign.
