La Liga: Best 11 Players of Week 33

The top 4 in La Liga almost couldn’t be closer and just 3 points separates 1st placed Atletico Madrid from 4th placed Sevilla. Though the weekend has given advantage to Barcelona who are 2 points behind Atletico in 3rd place but have a game in hand over them and Real Madrid.

Atletico lost at the weekend and Real Madrid drew against Real Betis. There were wins for Barcelona and Sevilla, and though they will be the underdogs Sevilla can’t be ruled out of winning the title. It has at least been a very exciting season in Spain and this league title could well go down to the wire.

Let’s take a look at the players who made the fantasy team for La Liga this past week and you can check if any of your players have made the selection.

Goalkeeper: Thibaut Courtois- Real Madrid 7pts

Courtois was the only goalkeeper in La Liga to earn the full 7 points. It’s not that other keepers didn’t keep a clean sheet but yellow cards can take points away. Courtois’s club Real Madrid had a poor result from their point of view at the weekend though as they could only draw 0-0 at home to Real Betis.

Defender: Stefan Savic- Atletico Madrid 8pts

This is a team full of Atletico Madrid players and we start with Stefan Savic who was able to earn 8 points this week. Earlier in the week Savic was part of a defence that kept a clean sheet as Atletico beat Huesca. At the weekend the club lost to Athletic Bilbao however Savic did score a goal as they went down 2-1. Despite giving the club hope, it wasn’t to be. That was Savic’s first goal of the season.

Defender: Raphael Varane- Real Madrid 5pts

Raphael Varane helped to keep a 13th clean sheet as Real Madrid drew 0-0 with Real Betis. Varane is the leading defender at the club with a total of 65 points this season.

Defender: Victor Ruiz- Real Betis 5pts

Victor Ruiz has helped to keep seven clean sheets so far for Betis and has 17 points so far for the season. He was solid in defence as Betis pulled off a terrific draw which finished 0-0.

Defender: Nacho- Real Madrid 5pts

Nacho is certainly one of the unsung heroes at Real Madrid and he is always the professional. He earned another 5 points as Madrid kept a clean sheet but not the desired result against Real Betis.

Midfielder: Yannick Carrasco- Atletico Madrid 8pts

Atletico played two games in a week and their first match against Huesca ended with victory. It was also a good game for Yannick Carrasco who scored his 5th goal of the season and kept a clean sheet. The midfielder now has 55 points and has been brilliant value at 6.5m.

Midfielder: Angel Correa- Atletico Madrid 6pts

Angel Correa has been solid this season for Atletico and he made a starring role in their victory over Huesca by scoring a goal. With 73 points Correa is the 2nd best midfielder for Diego Simeone’s team.

Midfielder: Marcos Llorente- Atletico Madrid 5pts

Marcos Llorente was brilliant against Huesca earlier last week as Atletico won 2-0. Llorente assisted in both goals. He has scored 11 goals and made a fantastic 10 assists so far and he is ranked as the best midfield player for the side with 90 points so far.

Midfielder: Portu- Real Sociedad 4pts

Portu scored as Real Sociedad beat Celta Vigo 2-1 earlier last week. Portu picked up another four points to add to his already 59 points for his club. Currently Portu is the best ranked player for his club and is 1 point ahead of Remiro.

Striker: Roberto Soldado- Granada 12pts

Roberto Soldado earned a fantastic 12 points over the week as Granada hammered Eibar 4-1 and he grabbed 2 of those goals. He also scored at the weekend although his side lost 2-1 to Sevilla. Soldado now has 9 goals so far and has acquired 31 points.

Striker: Antoine Griezmann- Barcelona 11pts

It’s not always been an easy time for Griezmann at Barcelona but he has had a good week. Griezmann scored both of Barcelona’s goals at the weekend as they won a very important fixture 2-1 away to Villarreal. Griezmann has now scored 11 goals so far this season in the league.

La Liga: Best 11 Players of Week 25

Atletico Madrid put the title back in their hands again as they went 5 points clear at the weekend and have a game extra to play over Real Madrid. Real could only draw 1-1 at home to Real Sociedad in a disappointing result for them.

Barcelona are on a great run and are also 5 points behind Atletico and they beat Sevilla 2-0 away from home. This was an impressive result from Barca given that Sevilla had been in great form.

Let’s take a look below at the La Liga team of the week, in a 4-4-2 formation.

Goalkeeper: Jan Oblak- Atletico Madrid 7pts

Atletico beat Villarreal 2-0 in the end but dare we say it, Villarreal were the better side who created so many chances but didn’t have that killer touch. Jan Oblak was superb in goal as the home side rained down chance after chance and he really won the game for his side. That’s 12 clean sheets now for the talented keeper.

Defender: Victor Ruiz- Real Betis 5pts

Victor Ruiz has kept 5 clean sheets for Betis and he did so once again as his club beat Cadiz 1-0. That was an impressive result as Cadiz have been good at home. Ruiz only has 10 points this season as he can lose points through too many bookings (4) so far.

Defender: Mario Hermoso- Atletico Madrid 5pts

One of the best defenders in Spain was solid again and Hermoso was a key factor in the backline for Atletico who won and kept a clean sheet to beat Villarreal. Hermoso is valued at just 5m and has earned 56 points so far.

Defender: Jordi Alba- Barcelona 5pts

It’s not always been plain sailing this season for Jordi Alba, but he held firm at the back and grew in confidence as the game with Sevilla went on. That is Alba’s 10th clean sheet of the season in a fantastic 2-0 win over Sevilla.

Defender: Aissa Mandi- Real Betis 5pts

Aissa Mandi was brilliant again for Real Betis and he made our team of the week last week also. Mandi helped to keep another clean sheet and has 25 points so far.

Midfielder: Portu- Real Sociedad 4pts

Portu’s form continues and the midfielder scored against Real Madrid in a game that finished 1-1. Portu now has 7 goals this season and has 53 points in total.

Midfielder: Raul Garcia-Athletic Bilabo 4pts

Raul Garcia scored a penalty which secured a much needed point for Bilbao at the weekend as they drew 1-1 with Levante. Garcia now has 19 points so far this season.

Midfielder: Carlos Alena- Getafe 6pts

Carlos Alena had a terrific game as the midfielder also dropped back to help in defence as Getafe beat Valencia 3-0 and that was seen as a surprise result. Alena then topped off a great weekend’s work by scoring the third goal.

Striker: Lionel Messi- Barcelona 5pts

It’s that man Lionel Messi again who makes the team of the week. Barcelona faced a very difficult side away from home in Sevilla and they won 2-0. Messi scored one of the goals and he now has 19 so far that is good enough to be the top goalscorer this season and is 3 goals in front of Luis Suarez.

Striker: Joao Felix- Atletico Madrid 4pts

Joao Felix scored his 7th goal of the season as Atletico remained top of the league and have a good 5 point gap after they beat Villarreal 2-0. Felix’s value is just 7m and he looks like a bargain for his return this season.

La Liga: Best 11 Players of Week 24

The Pressure is mounting on Atletico Madrid  as they have seen their once 10 point gap at the top cut down to 3 points although Diego Simeone’s side does have a game in hand. Atletico lost for the first time at home this season and have won just once in their last four games. Real Madrid can smell blood and we are certain to have an exciting finish to the season.

Barcelona were stunned at home as they could only draw 1-1 against Cadiz. Lionel Messi had opened the scoring but it wasn’t enough and Barca are 8 points behind Atletico with the same games played.

Sevilla are the best in form side in 4th place but Real Sociedad has regained their form and they have won 3 in a row and are chasing Sevilla down for 4th place.

It was another exciting week in Spain and we will take a look and see if any of your chosen players made the final cut.

Goalkeeper: Thibaut Courtois- Real Madrid 7pts

Real Madrid are on the hunt for the league title and Thibaut Courtois was on hand as Real Madrid beat Valladolid only 1-0 in a very tough game for the club. Courtois has now kept 11 clean sheets this season.

Defender: Antonio Barragan- Elche 7pts

Antonio Barragan is hardly a house hold name and he now has a total of 5 points as he was minus points before. But the player had a great week as he kept a clean sheet as Elche beat Eibar 1-0 and he also assisted in the only goal of the game.

Defender: Jorge Andujar Moreno- Levante 5pts

Jorge Andujar Moreno had a memorable game as Levante became the first club to beat Atletico Madrid at their home as they won 2-0. Moreno was solid in defence as Atletico had no less than 11 shots on target and he played his toughest game of the season, this is for sure.

Defender: Tono-Levante 5pts

Tono linked up well in defence to help to beat the number 1 team in Spain, Atletico Madrid. Tono has only started 5 games, but he had one of his best of his career so far and earned 5 points with his first clean sheet of the season.

Defender: Aissa Mandi- Real Betis 5pts

Aissa Mandi has been with Real Betis for a few seasons now and is becoming a veteran in defence. Mandi kept his sixth clean sheet of the season as Betis beat Getafe 1-0. Mandi’s value is 6.5m.

Midfielder: Portu- Real Sociedad 6pts

Portu started the season very strong, but he went a little quiet by Christmas but the player looks back to his best now and Real Sociedad beat Alaves 4-0 at the weekend to recover from their 4-0 loss against Manchester United in midweek. Portu scored the last goal.

Midfielder: Casemiro- Real Madrid 6pts

Casemiro scored yet again for Real Madrid and has proven to be one of the most important players for Zinedine Zidane’s team. Casemiro scored the only goal as Real beat Valladolid 1-0.

Midfielder: David Silva- Real Sociedad 6pts

David Silva still has that magic touch and the midfielder was involved in not one but two assists as Real Sociedad beat Alaves 4-0. Silva has 4 assists so far and 24 points for the season.

Midfielder: Alex- Cadiz 4pts

Alex scored a last minute penalty to give Cadiz a memorable point at Barcelona as the teams drew 1-1. He now has 21 points for the season and has been one of Cadiz’s best players so far.

Striker: Kevin Gameiro- Valencia 4pts

Kevin Gameiro scored only his 2nd goal of the season but it was an important one as Valencia beat Celta Vigo 2-0 and it was Gameiro who scored the winner goal.

Striker: Lionel Messi- Barcelona 4pts

There would be disappointment for Messi and Barcelona as they could only draw at home 1-1 against Cadiz. However Messi scored the opening goal which was a penalty and that was his 16th goal of the season. He is now joint top alongside Luis Suarez.

Best La Liga Players so far 2020/21

La Liga took a break this past week and they will play instead in midweek, so this gives us a chance to reflect on the players that have been lightning up the league season.

Two players will be picked from each position and we will look at how they have contributed so far be it with clean sheets, assists or goals. Based on their fantasy points they will make this elite list and you can check to see if any of your players make the best La Liga players of this season so far.

Goalkeeper

1. Jan Oblak- Atletico Madrid 75pts

Jan Oblak has been far and away the best goal keeper in Spain and is probably the best in Europe right now. Oblak is 29 points ahead of Remiro and his team are 1st in La Liga. Oblak has kept 11 clean sheets from 16 starts and his value is 11m.

2. Remiro- Real Sociedad 45pts

Real Sociedad started the season in fantastic form and Remiro was key to this. He has earned 45 points so far and has kept 8 clean sheets the same as Thibaut Courtois for Real Madrid.

Defender

1. Kieran Trippier- Atletico Madrid 59pts

An Englishman is currently the best defender in Spain and Kieran Trippier deserves more good press than perhaps he is getting in his home country. Trippier has been able to adapt and fit right into this Atletico Madrid team. He hasn’t scored yet this season in the league but that isn’t his job, he has assisted in 5 goals though and has helped to keep 10 clean sheets.

2. Mario Hermoso- Atletico Madrid 52pts

Mario Hermoso along with Trippier has been outstanding in defence for Atletico. It is incredible to think that after 16 games the club has only conceded 6 goals especially when some teams can concede that in one game. Hermoso has scored 1 goal, assisted in 1 and like Trippier he has helped to keep 10 clean sheets.

Midfielder

1. Marcos Llorente- Atletico Madrid 50pts

Yet another Atletico Madrid player makes it to the best players of the season so far, that is 4 out of the 8 players chosen playing for one club. Llorente has been incredible in midfield and contributed in 9 goals this season, 6 goals and 3 assists. He isn’t afraid to back track too and has been as solid as a rock.

2. Portu- Real Sociedad 42pts

At least for the first 3 months of the season you would be hard pressed to find a better and more inform midfielder than Portu. Every week his name seemed to pop up with a goal or an assist and it was no wonder that Sociedad were early pacesetters. Portu has scored 5 goals so far and assisted in another three and his current value is 8.5m.

Striker

1. Iago Aspas- Celta Vigo 45pts

The strikers are dominated by two 33 year olds. One is expected to be here the other less so. Iago Aspas has scored 9 goals for Celta Vigo and assisted in another six. Now here’s the amazing fact Celta Vigo have scored 22 goals in the league and Aspas has been involved in 15 of them, that works out at 70% of the goals coming from Aspas, not a bad return. His value is 8.5m.

2. Lionel Messi- Barcelona 43pts

A list of best players in Spain wouldn’t feel complete without Lionel Messi and he would be making lists like this every year for the past 13 years at least. By his standards it has been a quiet start and at times Barcelona have struggled with form. Still Messi has earned 43 points and scored 11 goals and assisted in another 2.

The Best 11 Players in La Liga 2020/21 so far

With internationals taking over the domestic season last week and this week we look at the players who are making all the noise in the Spanish league so far. Just who has been the best performing players this season?. Both Real Madrid and Barcelona have struggled so far, and only 1 player overall has made the final cut- who is it? Just who has been making the biggest impact so far in the league? In a 4-4-2 formation we will find out below:

Goalkeeper: Remiro- Real Sociedad 35pts

Remiro and Jan Oblak have the same points and have clearly been the outstanding goalkeepers in La Liga, however Remiro has played more games and whist Oblak was expected to have a great season Remiro wasn’t. The shot stopper has kept 5 clean sheets so far this season and Real Sociedad are top of the league.

Defender: Kieran Trippier- Atletico Madrid 27pts

Kieran Trippier is currently the best defender in Spanish football with 27 fantasy points earned. Atletico Madrid are in great form and the Englishman has helped to keep 5 clean sheets at the back and has also assisted in a goal. His value is 7m.

Defender: Mario Hermoso- Atletico Madrid 21pts

Mario Hermoso alongside Trippier has been solid as a rock in Atletico Madrid’s defence and has helped keep 4 clean sheets, he has played 2 less games than Trippier with five matches completed so far, his value is 5m.

Defender: Stefan Savic- Atletico Madrid 20pts

Atletico Madrid dominate the defence in Spanish football that is because they have staggeringly only conceded 2 goals this season from their seven games played. Savic has 20 fantasy points so far and has helped keep 4 clean sheets.

Defender: Felipe- Atletico Madrid 19pts

Felipe not only defends well but also has pace on the counter attack and is yet another Atletico Madrid player to make it in defence this season. The club have only conceded 1 goal at home and 1 away. Felipe has helped to keep 4 clean sheets.

Midfielder: Portu- Real Sociedad 30pts

So far Portu has been the best defender in the league and has 30 points after a blistering start which has saw his team Real Sociedad in the top position. He has been involved in 6 goals, scoring 4 and assisting in 2 and has been a revelation this season, his value is 8.5m.

Midfielder: Marcos Llorente- Atletico Madrid 25pts

Back to Atletico Madrid and their best midfielder has been Marcos Llorente. He has scored 3 goals and assisted in two others. He has been a great fixture in the middle of the field and one of the best players in the league so far overall.

Midfielder: Angel Correa- Atletico Madrid 22pts

Angel Correa has been able to link up well with Llorente in midfield. His contribution to the team has also been very important. He isn’t much of a goalscorer, although has scored this season but he is all about assist, and has already set up 4 goals this season.

Midfielder: Federico Valverde- Real Madrid 20pts

From Real Madrid and Barcelona it is incredible to think that only 1 player has made this team of the season so far. It’s been an interesting season though. Valverde has scored 3 goals and assisted in one, in an otherwise bumpy start for Zinedine Zidane’s team.

Striker: Mikel Oyarzabal- Real Sociedad 27pts

With Real Sociedad being the best team so far in the league it is no surprise that they have a striker who has started so well. Mikel Oyarzabal has chalked up 27 points through scoring six goals and also assisting in a further two. His current value is only 8m and he could end up being the best striker over the season at this rate.

Striker: Paco Alcacer- Villarreal 24pts

Paco Alcacer seems to be having a second wind as a striker and has done well with Villarreal so far this season. He has scored 5 goals and assisted in 2 and wit 24 points he is currently the 2nd best striker in Spain. His value is a real bargain at just 3m.

How Jokin Aperribay and Imanol Alguacil have guided Real Sociedad to the top of La Liga

Take a look at the La Liga table and the team sitting on top are none other than Real Sociedad. The club from the Basque country are showing their best form since they almost won the league title in 2002/03 after an epic battle with Real Madrid. But what chance does the club have now of repeating that challenge and maybe going one step further?

Club owner Jokin Aperribay will be celebrating 10 years as president and though they haven’t always been memorable at a team like Sociedad a lot of work must go on in the background to see the benefits down the line and that seems to be paying off this season.

Real Sociedad really are a throw back in time to when teams did not spend millions on the latest talent. Sure Sociedad have dipped into that arena once or twice but the clubs core values are simply to promote from within and their youth system is of utter importance.

A few years ago Aperribay said: “When they come to the first team it’s incredible news, these players come up through our system and know our colours, they understand our community and they are willing to push that and work hard and be part of the community and understand why we are here.” This is a reinforcement of promoting from within something that has all but died with most European clubs and especially the elite and it is a refreshing method.

The choice of coach at the club then shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. Imanol Alguacil is Sociedad through and through. The 49 year old started his career at Sociedad playing for the B team and spent a total of 9 years with the club in the 1990s. His managerial career has followed suit and he has only been in charge of either the Real Soceidad B team or the senior and that has been ongoing since 2011.

Imanol as he is widely known by just his first name in Spain stands for everything that Sociedad represent. A local that played the majority of his career with the club and is now coach- Sociedad’s ethics simply wouldn’t have it any other way. And for this season especially Imanol’s inner workings of the club and the backing of the president are seeing all of that hard work rewarded.

There is real quality in the side and leading the fantasy rankings is Remiro the goalkeeper who already has 28 points and has kept 4 clean sheets and only conceded four goals since the beginning of the season.

Attack is good too in the form of Mikel Oyarzabal who has scored 5 goals and assisted in a further 2. Portu has been a rock in midfield and he also has a total of 28 points and has scored four goals and assisted in another two and these are players that are regularly making the best La Liga team of the weekends.

One of the most important players for Sociedad is arguably David Silva. Though he is coming to the end of his career the talented player- a legend for Manchester City and much missed in England has impressed for his new club. But what else would one expect from one of the best players of his generation in the last decade. The move felt like a surprise but Silva is obviously content and the experience that he can bring to the side just in the dressing room really can’t be measured.

Presently Real Sociedad sit in 1st place with 17 points and have won 4 games in a row. Even though Real Madrid are just a point behind and have a game in hand what is encouraging is that Sociedad are scoring goals. It really is the best way to measure a team. The club beat Celta Vigo last weekend 4-1 and before that put another four goals past Huesca. In all they have scored 14 goals in their past four games and have 18 so far this season which is easily the most in the league.

How far can Sociedad go this season? We should know more by Christmas but their main rivals at this time will be Real Madrid and the emerging Atletico Madrid.

La Liga: Best 11 Players of the Weekend: Matchday 6

Barcelona lost and Real Madrid lost, repeat and repeat but the big two clubs lost and for now La Liga feels quite unpredictable. At least Barcelona can say they lost away from home against a tough team in Getafe. But what is Madrid’s excuse? Losing at home to Cadiz was probably the biggest shock in European football this weekend.

So Real Sociedad are top of the league after winning back to back games and Villarreal are only in 2nd place due to goal difference. Everything is to play for so let’s take a look at which players made the final cut of 11, maybe you will recognise a few in your fantasy picks?

Goalkeeper: Remiro- Real Sociedad 7pts

Whilst Getafe’s and Cadiz’s goal keepers could have made the final cut for keeping a clean sheet against Barcelona and Real Madrid it is worth noting that the clubs had 3 shots on target between them. Remiro gets the nod after Real Sociedad impressed again in a 3-0 win and that is Remiro’s 4th clean sheet already this season and he now has 28 points.

Defender: Dimitri Foulquier- Granada 6pts

Dimitri Foulquier earned 6pts at the weekend as Granada beat Sevilla 1-0. He did get booked but helped to keep a clean sheet and also assisted in the winning goal.

Defender: Paulo Oliveira- Eibar 5pts

Oliveira had a great game making some decisions that kept a clean sheet for Eibar, as the club, playing at home, drew 0-0 with Osasuna. He is valued at 5m and now has 8pts

Defender: Damian Suarez- Getafe 5pts

Damian Suarez had to keep alert to keep Barcelona out as Getafe recorded a famous 1-0 victory at home against the Catalan giants. Suarez was solid at the back and really led his team well to minimise Barcelona’s threat on goal.

Defender: Cala- Cadiz 5pts

Cadiz continued their brilliant start to the season by beating Real Madrid 1-0 at the Bernabeu and defender Cala was the best of the bunch at the back keeping Madrid fairly quiet.

Midfielder: Portu- Real Sociedad 6pts

Yet again Portu makes the final 11 cut after another dazzling display by Sociedad. The club beat Real Betis 3-0 away from home and Portu scored the opening goal. His team are now top of La Liga

Midfielder: Pere Milla- Elche 6pts

Pere Milla scored the opening goal as Elche playing away from home beat Alaves 2-0. Milla controlled the ball well in midfield and to get a goal and set up his team for victory was icing on the cake.

Midfielder: Yannick Carrasco- Atletico Madrid 6pts

Atletico Madrid recorded a 2-0 win over Celta Vigo and for much of the game the score was only 1-0, but Carrasco scored in injury time to finally confirm the win. Atletico have started the season unbeaten and will be one of the favourites to win the league.

Midfielder: Adnan Januzaj- Real Sociedad 6pts

A brilliant 3-0 win for Sociedad against Real Betis was capped off by a good goal from Januzaj who rounded off the win by grabbing the clubs 3rd goal. He is valued at 6.5m is looks like being a very reliable capture.

Striker: Mikel Oyarzabal- Real Sociedad 6pts

There’s quite a flurry of Real Sociedad players making this weeks list and for good reason, right now Sociedad are the best club in Spain. Oyarzabal assisted in the opening goal of the game and then scored the 2nd from the penalty spot.

Striker: Luis Suarez- Atletico Madrid 4pts

Luis Suarez has already been hit and miss for Atletico but when he is on fire there is no stopping him. Suraez was integral to this game as he opened the scoring for Atletico in a game that they eventually won 2-0, and he now was 3 goals and one assist already this season.

La Liga: Best 11 Players of Matchday 3

It’s officially the 3rd week of the Spanish season but this was the first game that Barcelona were involved in and they didn’t disappoint as they swathed aside Villarreal 4-0.

Champions Real Madrid came back from a losing position to stun Real Betis and win 3-2 in a very entertaining game. But the man taking all of the headlines will be Luis Suarez, who scored 2 goals for his new club Atletico Madrid as they crushed Granada 6-1.

Let’s take a look below at the best 11 players this past weekend, did any of them make your team?

Formation: 4-4-2

Goalkeeper: Norberto Neto- Barcelona 7pts

Credit need to be given to Norberto Neto who usually doesn’t get much game time for Barcelona. He joined last season but this was only his 3rd game for the club. Barcelona were clearly the superior team as they demolished Villarreal 4-0 but Neto still had a job to do and kept composed and got his clean sheet.

Defender: Jordi Alba- Barcelona 7pts

Jordi Alba was part of a defence that kept a clean sheet as Barcelona easily beat Villarreal 4-0 at home. Alba also assisted in Barca’s first goal of the game, and their first of the season and it was another solid game for him.

Defender: Xabier Etxeita- Getafe 5pts

Xabier Etxeita earned 5pt as he helped keep a clean sheet for his club Getafe as they drew 0-0 with Alaves, he is valued at just 3m and could be a bargain pick if he can keep up his performances throughout the season.

Defender: Clement Lenglet- Barcelona 5pts

Lenglet was criticised last season in an overall poor season that his club Barcelona had. Of course this wasn’t all his fault and the defender put in an assured performance as he helped keep a clean sheet in Barca’s win over Villarreal which they won 4-0.

Defender: Ruben Duarte- Alaves 5pts

Ruben Duarte put in a good shift at home as Alaves were able to pick up a point with a 0-0 draw against Getafe. It wasn’t the best of games but Duarte showed his qualities and made a few very good interceptions during the game. Because he was in minus points before, these 5pts have helped him and he now has a total of 4pts.

Midfielder: Angel Correa- Atletico Madrid 8pts

Atletico Madrid were superb in beating Granada 6-1 and Angel Correa was at the heart of the action in midfield. Correa assisted in 2 of the six goals and was a constant threat in his position. He is valued at 7.5m.

Midfielder: Unai Lopez- Athletic Bilbao 8pts

Unai Lopez had a great game in midfield for Bilbao and scored both of their goals grabbing the three points as Bilbao beat Eibar impressively away from home by 2-1.

Midfielder: Portu- Real Sociedad 6pts

Portu had a solid game as he opened the scoring for Real Sociedad and made brilliant use of possession in midfield. Sociedad went onto beat Elche 3-0 at the weekend. Portu is valued at 8.5m and has an overall score of 8 points so far this season.

Midfielder: Marcos Llorente- Atletico Madrid 6pts

A brilliant game for Marcos Llorente in midfield who scored Atletico’s 4th goal in their 6-1 win over Granada. He was all over the pitch- in a good way and it was no surprise in the end that he also assisted in another goal.

Striker: Luis Suarez- Atletico Madrid 10pts

What a debut for Luis Suarez who signed from Barcelona just a few weeks ago. Not only did he see his new team score 6 goals in their first league game of the season, he scored a brace. What made his debut more impressive is that he only came on for the last 20 minutes. He is valued at 15m.

Striker: Anssumane Fati- Barcelona 8pts

Anssumane Fati seems like a striker worth keeping an eye on, he had a very decent last season and has started this one in great form. He scored 2 of Barcelona’s 4 goals against Villarreal and they were the opening two goals which effectively killed off the game. At just 5m Fati looks a steal for a great bargain.

Player of the weekend: Luis Suarez- Atletico Madrid 10pts

Girona stars to exits following La Liga relegation

Real Madrid v Girona

Girona could suffer a double blow following their relegation from La Liga, with the top flight’s side circling for their key players.

Eusebio Sacristan, who has since been fired, as unable to stem the tide as the Catalan side’s poor form dragged them deeper into danger, with rivals Celta Vigo and Villarreal heading in the opposition direction.

With their two-season stint in La Liga, Girona are now preparing for life in the Segunda Division. A task made harder by the lack of a first team manager, and the potential that their key players could also be on the way out.

Week 28: Best 11 Players in Fantasy La Liga

SSSSSSSSSSSSSS(1)

Week 28 in La Liga saw Barcelona extend their lead at the top of the standings to 10 points after they destroyed Real Betis 4-1 whilst Atletico Madrid lost at Athletic Bilbao. Zinedine Zidane’s spectacular return to Real Madrid saw the club win 2-0 as their objective will be to finish as runners up. Below we take a look at the best 11 players who performed over this past weekend.

Goalkeeper: Iago Herrerin

Athletic Bilbao’s Iago Herrerin gets the vote for best goalkeeper of the weekend not only picking up 7pts but because the opposition was Atletico Madrid who are in 2nd place and this was the first time that they could not score a goal in over a month with Herrerin keeping a clean sheet. Herrerin is 4th in the goalkeeper standings and can be bought for just 5m.

Defender: Marcelo

Marcelo has been the forgotten player at Real Madrid starting just 13 games this season. But with the return of Zidane, he is back and got the most points for a defender this week with 7. Not only did he help keep a clean sheet in Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Celta Vigo but he assisted in Gareth Bale’s goal. Marcelo can be brought into your team for 8m and could well return as a regular under Zidane’s wing.

Defender: Sergio Ramos

Ramos was disciplined for Real Madrid’s latest victory and needed to be as yellow cards and reds has frequently lost him points. But he put in a solid mature display and picked up 5pts at the weekend. He is valued at 9m and is 3rd in the defender rankings.

Defender: Vitorino Antunes

Antunes was one of the best defenders in La Liga for week 28 and picked up 5pts with his club Getafe who drew 0-0 with Valencia. It was  a massive result as it kept Getafe in 4th place. He has been solid all season and is just 6m to buy.

Defender: Damian Suarez

The reason that Getafe have conceded just 24 goals this season is mostly down to Suarez’s leadership at the back. And he earned 5pts by keeping Valencia quiet. The player can be brought into your team for 8.5m.

Midfielder: Portu

Portu, the Girona midfielder had a weekend to remember as he scored both goals in his teams 2-0 win over Leganes. He earned a whopping 10pts at the weekend by doing so and his team kept a clean sheet. He is 9th in the rankings for midfielders and can be brought in for 8.5m which looks a bargain.

Midfielder: Mario Suarez

Mario Suarez scored Rayo Vallecano’s only goal to earn 4pts at the weekend despite his team losing 3-1 to Villarreal. At the same time Suarez earned amongst the most points of midfielders at the weekend  as he scored his first goal of the season. He is valued at 3m.

Midfielder: Borja

Borja saw his team Girona win 2-0 and move up the table. He has been reliable this season and has scored a few goals with some assists. He could be a shrewd transfer and comes in at 7m.

Midfielder: Adrian Januzaj

Januzaj scored the opening goal for Real Sociedad which ended up earning his team a point and moving into 10th spot. He is valued at 6.5m and assists more (3 this season) than scores, and this was his first goal of the season. But with 4pts he has made the team of the week.

Striker: Lionel Messi

No player even comes close to the great Lionel Messi this week as he scored a fantastic hattrick against Real Betis to earn a whopping 14pts. He now has 143pts in Fantasy La Liga standings and is 60pts ahead of 2nd placed Luis Suarez. If you can afford him Messi will unsurprisingly set you back 20m.

Striker: Karl Toko Ekambi

Villarreal have struggled this season but perhaps Ekambi has found his scoring boots as the forward scored twice at the weekend against Vallecano. His goals could save the club from relegation. He has 6 goals this season and can be snapped up for 6m.
