Serie A Team of the Week – Round 35

The last round was rich of goals: here are the top performers.

Marco Sportiello: just two clean sheets in the weekend, by Fiorentina and Lazio. The Viola did not have to defend too much after an early red card to Napoli, but Thomas Strakosha was booked, so Sportiello was the only goalie to receive seven points.

Cristiano Biraghi: the full back was the top earner among defenders with seven points this week as he assisted Giovanni Simeone with a long ball for the opening goal.

Stefan De Vrij: a solid performance for the Dutch centre-back, who comfortably controlled Andrea Belotti and also contributed to Milinkovic-Savic gaining a penalty with an excellent delivery. He collected five points like most of his fellow Biancocelesti defenders.

Luiz Felipe: the youngster had to deal with Adem Ljajic, who is in great form, but managed to contain him. He has become a staple of Inzaghi’s lineup in the past couple of months.

Hakan Calhanoglu: Milan certainly missed him in the last two games and he returned with a bang, smashing one home from long range and then setting up Giacomo Bonaventura. He amassed six points like the next two midfielders.

Bryan Cristante: the Atalanta star snapped out of a little scoring slump with one of his customary cuts in the box followed by a precise finish and also assisted Barrow with a dime for the first goal of the game.

Nicolas Viola: Benevento continue to hustle despite the mathematic relegation and Viola buried an impressive diving header against Udinese and sent in the corner kick that Bacary Sagna bagged.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic: Lazio needed somebody to step up after Ciro Immobile got hurt and Luis Alberto missed a penalty and the Serbian answered the bell, outjumping the opponents on a corner kick for the game-winning goal.

Giovanni Simeone: El Cholito netted his first hat-trick in Serie A against a mighty defence. First of all, he caused Kalidou Koulibaly’s red card with his tenacity. He then beat the offside trap and finished with aplomb in front of Pepe Reina, nudged home a loose ball on a corner kick and finished off the opponents on a counter in the stoppage time. He was the top earner this week with 14 points.

Edin Dzeko: Roma had no troubles carving Chievo’s defence and the Bosnian scored a brace, finding the target with a volley burning two defenders and then slotting one home from distance.

Kevin Lasagna: the striker once again delivered for Udinese, tallying a relatively easy brace against the suspect Benevento back-line and extending his scoring streak. However, it was not enough to win the game and he appeared to get hurt again.
