An easy choice for best team of the round in this case as Fiorentina pummelled Chievo at home in the first game of their season, finishing with the overly large result of 6-1.
Stefano Pioli will be without his staple Jordan Veretout for a couple of games because of a suspension and picked the newcomers Edimilson and Gerson to complete the midfield, alongside Marco Benassi. The Frenchman is rumoured to be tabbed as deep-lying playmaker this year, basically replacing Milan Badelj, and Gerson certainly staked his claim to continue starting in this one. Valentin Eysseric played as left winger over Marko Pjaca and Kevin Mirallas because they have some conditioning issues.
The Viola did quick work of an opponent that put up a great fight against Juventus last week, but vanished in front of an unrelenting offence. The Flying Donkeys had just one decent chance when the result was still nil-nil, with Mariusz Stepinski heading it over the bar from excellent position.
After that, the Fiorentina show started with a bang as Nikola Milenkovic uncorked a missile from distance that died in the top corner to open the score. Giovanni Simeone and Federico Chiesa had a pair of good chances parried away by Andrea Seculin, but the second goal still arrived before the end of the first half, with Gerson cleaning up the mess after a corner kick and a couple of attempts by his teammates from inside the six-yard box were sandbagged.
Marco Benassi sealed the match four minutes into the second half, connecting on pinpoint delivery by Giovanni Simeone on a two-man counter and heading it past the goalie. Then it was Chiesa’s turn to score, this time with a precise finish after Gerson sprung him loose in the box with a lob. Five minutes later, Nenad Tomovic found the consolation goal for the guests heading in a corner kick and took advantage of the moment to commemorate his former teammate Davide Astori by indicating the number 13.
However, Fiorentina were not done piling up goals as Benassi added one more with a cut in the box on an assist by Cristiano Biraghi, then El Cholito finally got his, slotting the ball between Seculin’s leg from favourable position after a pretty nice feed by Eysseric.
The goal they conceded ruined what would have been one of best fantasy loots of the season, but it was still impressive with seven players, including the most popular ones, collecting at least two points. Benassi led the way with eight, Simeone and Gerson garnered six, Chiesa and Milenkovic four, Biraghi and Eysseric two for their dimes.
