Serie A Fantasy Recap – Round 6

roma

The midweek round is always a little wacky, mainly due to some heavy rotation by the managers. The most recent one was no different and several teams failed to score. Here is a quick recap of what went down.

Standings implications: Juventus and Napoli keep marching on and did quick work of their Emilian opponents. Roma returned to winning ways by steamrolling Frosinone, while Inter and Lazio maintained their momentum by defeating Fiorentina and Udinese. Atalanta and Torino shared their spoils in a dull match, while Sampdoria was held to a nil-nil tie in Cagliari. Genoa grabbed another home win over Chievo. Sassuolo fly high after they resounding win over SPAL, while Milan had another disappoint result in Empoli.

Confirmations: Lorenzo Insigne is unplayable these days, then Arek Milik finished off the opponent with an easy brace. Krzysztof Piatek is absolutely on fire and Goran Pandev buried a lovely daisy-cutter against Chievo. It is a little contested whether it should be considered an own goal or not, but Federico Chiesa found the target again in San Siro. Roma’s usual suspects finally delivered with Cengiz Under, Javier Pastore, Stephan El Shaarawy and Aleksandar Kolarov all scoring. Francesco Caputo scored his third one this season.

Guess who is back: Mauro Icardi netted his first goal of the year by converting a penalty, Paulo Dybala did the same with a spectacular volley. Joaquin Correa duped a defender with a terrific double stepover in the box before slotting it home: he had scored just once last year at Sevilla. Alessandro Matri had not put one on goal since last December.

Surprise scorers: Danilo D’Ambrosio is occasionally able to put his name in the scoresheets and his goal was crucial on Tuesday. Two defenders hit the net in Udinese-Lazio: Francesco Acerbi and Bram Nuytinck, the latter with a bicycle kick. Claud Adjapong found his second gol in the top league. Lucas Biglia had not scored since last February.

Flops of the round: Dawid Kownacki missed a penalty in the stoppage time against Cagliari, while Gregoire Defrel wasted away a couple of clear-cut chances. Atalanta and Torino did not muster much offence in their fixture, with few popular fantasy players being shut out as a result. Frosinone is still scoreless, but that is no longer a surprise. Mariusz Stepinski squandered a major scoring opportunity versus Genoa. Bologna and Parma did nothing up front in their match-ups against the cream of the Serie A crop.
