EPL Best XI – Mesut Ozil stars

Mesut Ozil

Manchester City and Liverpool have 23 points after nine games of the 2018-19 Premier League season, while Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham trail them by just two points following another incident-filled weekend in England’s top flight. Let’s take a look at which players made our Best XI from the last three days…

GK: Jordan Pickford, Everton – seven points
Jordan Pickford has recovered from a slow start to the season to pick up 14 points in two of his last three games. He earned another seven in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace – a match in which he also saved a penalty.

DF: Michael Keane, Everton – seven points
We mentioned at the start of the month that Michael Keane would be a good addition to your fantasy team, and we weren’t wrong! He recorded an assist and helped Everton keep a clean sheet in the victory against Palace.

DF: Benjamin Mendy, Manchester City – seven points
Benjamin Mendy hasn’t been the prolific points scorer we expected him to be at the start of the season. He still has 24 points in 2018-19 so far, though, with seven of those being earned in the 5-0 demolition of Burnley on Saturday.

DF: Joe Gomez, Liverpool – five points
Joe Gomez has been a reliable points scorer in the early weeks of the season and this past weekend was no different. He helped Liverpool keep a clean sheet in the 1-0 win at Huddersfield, moving him up to 30 points for the campaign.

DF: Nathan Ake, Bournemouth – five points
Bournemouth have kept clean sheets in each of their last two matches, meaning Nathan Ake has picked up an impressive 10 points in October so far. He played a key role in shutting out Southampton in the goalless draw on Saturday.

MD: Fernandinho, Manchester City – eight points
Fernandinho is the least creative of Manchester City’s talented midfielders but he still chips in with points every so often. He scored one goal and set up another in the 5-0 win over Burnley, earning himself a weekend-high eight points.

MD: Mesut Ozil, Arsenal – six points
Mesut Ozil silenced his detractors by playing a part in two of Arsenal’s goals, scoring one and recording an assist, in the 3-1 victory over Leicester on Monday. He now has 18 points this season.

MD: Roberto Pereyra, Watford – six points
Roberto Pereyra failed to score any points in the five games heading into Saturday’s match at Wolves. The Watford man finally put that right, scoring in the 2-0 victory to get some points on the board for the first time since August.

MD: Etienne Capoue, Watford – six points
Didn’t think you’d see Etienne Capoue in this week’s Best XI? Nor did we. The Watford midfielder has been stuck on zero points for much of the season, so it was a surprise to see him score – and pick up six points in the process – in the 2-0 win over Wolves.

ST: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Arsenal – eight points
Another week, another Arsenal forward gets in the Best XI. Just like last week, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang came off the bench to score two goals in the 3-1 win against Leicester, earning himself eight points. He now has 18 points from his last two games.

ST: Anthony Martial, Manchester United – eight points
Anthony Martial proved his worth in the Manchester United starting XI by scoring both goals for Jose Mourinho’s side in the 2-2 draw at Chelsea, taking his tally for the season to 11 points.
