Serie A Fantasy Recap – Round 30

Standings implication: Juventus overwhelmed Cagliari, while Napoli fell to Empoli and therefore the Bianconeri could potentially clinch the title in the weekend. In the Champions League race, it was a positive round for Inter, which thumped Genoa on the road, and Atalanta that demolished Bologna, while Milan had a disappointing tie with Udinese and Lazio were outlasted by SPAL. The Biscione built a little lead while the Orobici are one point behind the Rossoneri.

Torino returned to winning ways against Sampdoria, while Roma again failed to take home the W as they equalized with Fiorentina. The Granata pulled even with the Nation’s Capital teams and distanced Sampdoria. As it is often the case in this time of the year, the relegation strugglers are starting to get some surprise victories: SPAL and Empoli gained points on Udinese and Bologna. Frosinone snatched their first home win of the season, but it might be too late for them as they are * behind the 17th position.

Confirmations: Andrea Belotti has been unconscious in the past month and netted a brace on Wednesday. Krzysztof Piatek displayed his nose for the goal against versus Udinese, but Kevin Lasagna replied to him. Josip Ilicic hit Bologna with bruce force right away and also Duvan Zapata punced one home there. Moise Kean extended his prolific streak, but he is not the only young striker delivering as Andrea Pinamonti punished Parma. Andrea Petagna delivered from the penalty spot in a tough match-up. Diego Perotti found his first one on open play in stunning fashion. Piotr Zielinski bagged a missile. Manolo Gabbiadini notched his first since coming over in January. Roberto Gagliardini stayed hot with a surprising brace. Domenico Berardi put it through for the second time in the last four games.

Guess who is back: Mauro Icardi shook off the exhausting controversies and shined against Genoa, where also Ivan Perisic knocked one on goal. Nicolò Zaniolo returned to the scoresheets after a one-month absence. Diego Farias has been playing pretty well since moving to Empoli, but he had not scored in the past five games. Gerson stung his former team.

Surprise scorers: Luca Valzania buried a scorcher. Leonardo Bonucci broke the deadlock against Cagliari with a majestic header, while Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s one toppled Napoli. German Pezzella joined the fellow defenders on the list in the same manner in the Roma clash, but Merih Demiral ended up outdoing everybody with a brace on Thursday night. Manuel Locatelli had not netted one since late January.

Flops of the round: after impressing in the previous round, the Partenopei and the Biancocelesti’s attacks pretty much laid an egg in Empoli and in Ferrara. Genoa were dismal against Inter. Emanuele Giaccherini missed from the penalty spot the consolation goal for Chievo in another tough outing.

Clutch goal: it got a little ridiculous in Frosinone as a late VAR review dragged the game until the 105th minute, but Daniel Ciofani managed to keep his composure as drained the penalty.
