Spalletti expecting a big performance from Inter vs. Roma

Luciano Spalletti held his traditional pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow night’s crucial Serie A match against Roma. Here is what he said to the journalists who gathered at the Suning Training Centre earlier this afternoon:

“To find yourself six matches from the end competing with a side like Roma means that the gap has been closed with the clubs who had been the examples to follow (Napoli and Roma). They previously held a secure place at the top of our league. It’s a really important moment for us, we’re playing the right chords and getting the right sounds out of them. Because of this, we’re happy to go and play in such an important game.

“For me, Roma are coming into the game in the right way after their most recent games. They’ve played well and got important results such as the one in Genoa. Džeko is an opponent to be feared, but we have Lautaro and Icardi in that role who are doing well and Keita has always done his job well when called upon.

“Borja Valero will be in the squad, we’ll evaluate Brozović today. It’ll be tough for him but he’s taken part in the last training sessions, I also have to discuss it with my staff. We’ve played without both in games and done well with Gagliardini and Vecino who split the workload between them in making runs and building from deep while João Mário is also doing well.

“It’s difficult to say today who will play, evaluations have to be made. Both Icardi and Lautaro are doing well, a decision will have to be reached in a coherent fashion but it’s a tough decision because both would deserve to play. I expect a lot from many of my players because as time goes on, the results become more important so being focused, mature and proactive can make the difference and help us to bring home a win. I expect the right consideration to be applied to these matches. As an experienced player, Perišić will know how to get the energy in his muscles and how to get his head into this kind of game.”
