EPL Best XI – Week 35

With the Premier League season continuing whittling itself down to what seems destined to be a thrilling conclusion, nothing more was decided during this past weekend’s action. The battle to avoid being the last side to be relegated from the top flight this season remains far from over, while various intricate races / challenges at the top of the table appear nowhere nearer to being resolved. Liverpool remain two points ahead of Man City at the top of the league with City having a game in hand, Everton impressed many by beating Man Utd 4-0 at Goodison Park and Crystal Palace pulled off a great 3-2 win over Arsenal at the Emirates. With all that said, let us now adopt a 4-3-3 formation and take a peek at which players performed the best this weekend.

GK – Jordan Pickford (Everton)
The England international deserves this week’s award for best goalkeeper owing to the strength of opposition – Everton’s 4-0 win over visiting Man Utd was their biggest over the Red Devils for quite some time.

DF – Lucas Digne (Everton)
Another Toffee on this week’s list, Digne earned himself nine points thanks to Everton’s clean sheet as well as scoring one of their goals.

DF – Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)
Merseyside continues to dominate this week’s best charts, as Alexander-Arnold takes second place for Premier League defenders this week with seven points. He set up one of Liverpool’s two goals in their win at Cardiff, and earned five for the clean sheet.

DF – Kyle Walker (Man City)
Walker was one of a host of defenders to secure five points for themselves this weekend, but City’s 1-0 win over Spurs will have been sweet considering the north Londoners’ advancement in the Champions League at City’s expense.

DF – Lewis Dunk (Brighton)
Dunk did well to help Brighton keep a clean sheet as they recorded a goalless draw with Wolves at Molineux. They now sit just three points ahead of Cardiff in 18th, but do have a game in hand.

MF - Georginio Wijnaldum (Liverpool)
Wijnaldum tops this weekend’s Premier League midfielder charts with six points earned during the Reds’ 2-0 win at Cardiff. He scored one of their goals and earned two points for the clean sheet.

MF – Theo Walcott (Everton)
The former Arsenal man showed flashes of his once staggering potential as he helped the Toffees to that 4-0 win over Man Utd. He scored one of the hosts’ goals, racking up six points of his own owing to that clean sheet as well.

MF – James Milner (Liverpool)
Liverpool are getting themselves all over this list! Milner finished the weekend in third place for Premier League midfielders with five points – he would have tied with Wijnaldum and Walcott but was booked, losing one point as a result.

ST – Ayoze Perez (Newcastle)
Perez shone through as the Premier League’s best striker this weekend, picking up a whopping 14 points thanks to his hattrick in the Toon’s 3-1 home win against Southampton on Saturday.

ST - Gerard Deulofeu (Watford)
Second on the Premier League strikers charts was Hornets star Deulofeu, who finished some way behind Perez on eight points. Those points did come from two goals, so no little effort really! Watford won 2-1 at Huddersfield on Saturday.

ST - Christian Benteke (Crystal Palace)
Benteke rounds off this week’s Best XI thanks to his contribution to Palace’s 3-2 win at Arsenal. He scored one and set another up, finishing the weekend with a total of six points.
