Juventus announced on Saturday a new five-year deal for Rodrigo Bentancur, who is now signed until 2024. His previous contract was set to expire in 2022 and had not been modified after he joined form Boca Juniors in the summer of 2017. According to the reports, he will now earn close to €3M per year. He has collected 67 appearances in his two seasons in Turin, scoring twice, and played his best football in the final months of 2019, when the midfield was ravaged by injuries. His playing time then took a hit when Sami Khedira and Emre Can got healthy.

The Uruguayan international commented to the club’s TV: “It is an incredible emotion, I am very happy for tacking on two more years to my contract. I want to fully take advantage of this opportunity by improving as much as possible and bring many more titles to this club.”

“I am part of an incredible team: when I arrived, I was told that Juventus was a family and they proved it to me every year. It is one of top three sides in Europe and it is an honor to stay here for five more seasons.”

On his role: “I like to play everywhere in the midfielder. I fit in nicely, also in the national team. Versatility in key in today’s football.”

On his two goals: “I scored the first one on a cross by Joao Cancelo, Cristiano Ronaldo was trailing the play but I got to the ball a little earlier. It was a special day. On the second one, instead, I interplayed with Paulo Dybala, Ronaldo lured a defender away to open some room to cut and I hit the net with a cross-shot. I hope to score few more like this one.”

On his aspirations: “My goal is to win everything next year with this club. Then I believe that it is everybody’s dream to take home the World Cup with his national team and I will work hard to make it possible.”

The 21-year-old midfielder was originally part of the Carlos Tevez deal in 2015, where the Old Lady got a future option to buy him, which happened two years later. He is currently partaking to the 2019 Copa America in Brazil. On top winning the last two Scudetti, a Coppa Italia and a Supercoppa with Juventus, he prevailed twice in Argentina with the Xeneizes and triumphed in the U-20 Copa America in 2017 with Uruguay.
