AC Milan rumour round-up: Correa saga still ongoing; contract renewals prepared

Another week has passed of the transfer window, and as the season will kick off next week, AC Milan are looking to complete their business. However, it’s been a slow week on many fronts for the Rossoneri.

Correa negotiations still ongoing: the latest

As a result of constant rumours in the last few weeks, many are tired of reading about this player and the interest of Milan. At the beginning of the week, it looked like we were heading towards a breakthrough, as Correa’s agent flew to Europe in an attempt to unlock the negotiations.

However, since then, there have been more or less no updates on the matter. The Rossoneri remain firm on their initial offer of €40m plus bonuses, while Atletico Madrid are asking for more. At the beginning of next week, Maldini could fly to Madrid for a meeting with the Spanish side.

Conti, Kessie and Suso will stay

All three have been linked with a transfer this summer, but as few offers have arrived, it looks like they will remain. For Kessie, most of the interest died out once the English transfer window closed, while Conti has decided to remain at the club despite an offer from Parma.

As for Suso, no clubs have been able to satisfy Milan’s demands, while Giampaolo is very keen on keeping the player. In fact, even if the Rossoneri were to sign Correa this summer, the Spaniard will stay. Instead, Boban and Maldini will focus on selling Andre Silva, though it is proving to be easier said than done.

New contracts prepared for Donnarumma and Suso

As the transfer window is coming to an end, Milan will soon be able to focus on internal matters. It is believed that the management will set out to renew the contracts of Donnarumma and Suso, as they are looking to amend the current deals of the players, who are both important to the team.

The Rossoneri will look to extend Gigio’s deal as it expires in 2021, most likely adding a year to the contract while also decreasing the salary, which currently amounts to €6m per year. For Suso, they will be looking to remove the release clause, offering the Spaniard a higher salary in exchange for doing so.

Maldini eyes alternative to Correa

Maldini will reportedly fly to Madrid next week, where he will meet with Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid. The Italian director is expected to make a final push for Correa, who has been linked with the club for several weeks. However, should things remain as they are, then an alternative has been set.

In fact, the Rossoneri could opt for Real Madrid’s Mariano Diaz, as the Dominican striker has been put up for sale by the Bernabeu side. Reports suggest that he could leave for around €25m, which is half the amount of what Atletico are asking for Correa. In other words, he would represent an affordable option.
