AC Milan 1-3 Fiorentina: Giampaolo’s position at risk following new loss

AC Milan continue to disappoint. Against Fiorentina, the Rossoneri lacked many things, putting in a terrible performance as Montella’s men were able to grab an easy win at the San Siro. Therefore, Giampaolo’s position is in doubt, as the management is getting impatient.

Milan started the game relatively well, keeping hold of the ball while Fiorentina decided to approach the clash with caution. However, La Viola quickly got going as the home side started to make mistakes, which cost them dearly already after 12 minutes of play.

Calhanoglu missed a pass back to his defenders, which Ribery was quick to pounce on. The Frenchman managed to get past both two defenders with a nice dribbling, which left him one-on-one with Donnarumma. The latter saved the effort, though Chiesa got to the rebound, only to be brought down by Bennacer.

The referee pointed to the spot straight away and Pulgar made no mistakes with the penalty, putting the away side in front early on. From there on, Milan tried to get back into the game, but failed to create any dangerous chances before the referee blew his whistle for half-time.

However, Giampaolo’s men didn’t exactly improve in the second half. After just seven minutes, Musacchio was booked after a reckless challenge on Ribery, coming in with his studs first. In fact, the tackle even caught the attention of VAR, who told the referee to check for a potential red card. After watching several replays, the Argentine defender was sent off.

As a result of this, Giampaolo brought on Duarte in place of Piatek, switching to a 4-4-1 formation. Obviously, Fiorentina managed to dominate possession with one more man on the pitch, giving Milan a hard time in the defensive phase. In the 66th minute, the away side doubled their lead through Castrovili, who pounced on a rebound.

Donnarumma got his hand to the cross, but punched it straight into the path of the attacking midfielder, while his defenders were nowhere to be seen. Three minutes later, Castrovili was involved once more as Bnenacer brought him down in the penalty box, resulting in yet another spot-kick for La Viola.

This time, Chiesa stepped up. However, the Italian’s effort had no accuracy and Donnarumma was able to make a save, diving to his left. Unfortunately, though, the third goal eventually came as Chiesa redeemed himself by setting up Ribery, who topped of a great performance with a goal.

Just two minutes later, though, Milan managed to score a consolation goal as Rafael Leao took matters into his own hands, taking on the entire Fiorentina defence. The Portuguese did brilliantly to get past the defenders and slot home his first goal for the Rossoneri.

Of course, it wasn’t enough for Milan to get back. After yet another loss, therefore, Giampaolo’s position is at risk as the fans, along with the club management, are getting tired of the idea of having to wait. Thus far, barely any progress has been seen, which makes you wonder if the manager is the right man.
