Fantasy La Liga Gameweek 3 Picks

Barcelona and Atletico Madrid kick off their 2020-21 La Liga campaigns on Sunday whilst Real Madrid will be looking to improve on their 0-0 draw at Real Sociedad when they travel to Real Betis on Saturday night.

Real Betis and Granada are the only two sides to have taken six points so far this season but nearly half of the league have yet to play twice.

Here are this weekend’s picks for your fantasy team:

Goalkeeper: David Soria (Getafe)
Getafe are away to struggling Deportivo Alaves in the opening fixture of the Spanish weekend. David Soria kept a clean sheet in his first game of the season whilst this weekend’s hosts have scored just once in 180 minutes.

Defender: Xabier Exteita (Getafe)
The cheapest option among Getafe defenders is Xabier Exteita, who was among the starting back four in their 1-0 win over Osasuna last weekend. Jose Bordalas’ side will be looking for another shut out away to Alaves on Saturday.

Defender: Diego Carlos (Sevilla)
Sevilla get their season underway on Sunday when they travel to Cadiz. Although the hosts are coming off the back of a 2-0 win away to Huesca, they lost their season opener by the same score at home to Osasuna. Sevilla have a strong derfence so Diego Carlos should be among the best opportunities to get a clean sheet among your defenders this weekend.

Defender: Kieran Trippier (Atletico Madrid)
Atletico Madrid start their season against earlier leaders Granada this weekend. Diego Simeone’s side are always among the best defensive records come the end of the season and should be fancied for a clean sheet in their opener. Kieran Trippier will set you back just £5.0m and takes corners too.

Midfielder: Ruben Garcia (Osasuna)
Ruben Garcia was among the top scorers in fantasy football last season and already has a goal this season. Osasuna host Levante, who have conceded the joint most goals heading into the weekend. A home win should be on the cards and if that’s the case there’s a good chance Garcia will get among the goals.

Midfielder: Martin Odegaard (Real Madrid)
Zinedine Zidane made a surprise by naming Martin Odegaard as the starting number 10 in Real Madrid’s season opener. It ended in a disappointing 0-0 draw so it will be interesting to see if the skillful Norwegian starts the trip to Real Betis on Saturday night. If so, he’s great value at £5.0m.

Midfielder: Saul Niguez (Atletico Madrid)
Atletico Madrid are expected to start their season with a win and Saul Niguez is a good goalscoring threat from midfield. He’s the best value for money midfielder in Simeone’s side at £6.5m.

Midfielder: Franco Vazquez (Sevilla)
Franco Vazquez was one of Sevilla’s top scoring players from midfield last season and there’s no reason he won’t be in Julen Lopetegui’s starting XI for the trip to Cadiz to start their season either.

Attacker: Maximiliano Gomez (Valencia)
The Valencia attacker has started the season with two goals in his first two games and with a game at home to Huesca on Saturday gives Maxiliano Gomez and his side every chance to put a few more goals in the net for the league’s early leading scorers.

Attacker: Joao Felix (Atletico Madrid)
Joao Felix didn’t have the best of debut season’s in La Liga but with an extended summer to adapt to the team could have helped. Starting at home to Granada gives the Portuguese striker good hope of scoring and at £5.50m makes him good value.

Attacker: Lionel Messi (Barcelona)
After making a u-turn to stay at Barcelona over the summer all eyes will be on Lionel Messi Sunday night when the Argentine and La Liga giants start their season at home to Villarreal. There’s rarely a reason not to put Messi in your team.
