Serie Best Fantasy XI – Round Eight

Ivan Provedel (7 points): it was a pretty good showing for defenses, like in the last round before the break, as six of them managed to keep a clean sheet, two in the same game (Spezia-Atalanta). The Aquilotti’s goalkeeper was by far the busiest in the weekend and shined in particular on a pair of monster saves on point-blank attempts by Robin Gosens.

Merih Demiral (7 points): his partnership with the returning Matthijs De Ligt worked just fine against Cagliari as Juventus blanked the opponents, plus he put his overwhelming physicality to good use on set pieces in the opposing box, rattling the crossbar in one occasion and setting up Cristiano Ronaldo’s tap-in in another one.

Rick Karsdorp (7 points): Roma’s back-line stymied Parma with extreme ease and he was credited with an assist on the second Henrikh Mkhitaryan goal, but his pass was pretty routine and the teammate gets all the credit there. He has been a pleasant surprise after almost leaving the club during the summer.

Vlad Chiriches (5 points): he was questionable coming into the Verona game because of a thigh injury, but he gutted it out it and played suffocating defence versus a quality opponent, massively contributing to Sassuolo’s second straight clean sheet.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan (10 points): no Edin Dzeko no problem for Roma, as the Armenian attacker has turned up the volume of his performances, bagging five goals in the past two fixtures. He is no stranger to scoring gems as well and the piledriver to make in three-nil against Parma is the latest addition to his collection.

Jeremie Boga (8 points): the speedster finally snapped out of his funk after dealing with COVID for a prolonged stretch and had his best showing of the season against Verona, as he broke the deadlock against the run of play with a dazzling curled shot from the left-hand portion of the box, which had become his trademark last season.

Joaquin Correa (6 points): he kept things afloat while Lazio navigated through several absences, but he had yet to be rewarded with a goal in Serie A. It finally happened in Sassuolo, as he slalomed through defenders before five-holing the goalkeeper from a very angled position.

Rodrigo De Paul (6 points): he dominated the contest against Genoa, carrying his team to a much-needed victory thanks to a surgical and crafty strike in the first half. On top of creating several chances, he came close to a brace as he hit the woodwork on a splendid free kick.

Romelu Lukaku (12 points): his goals are rarely all that good-looking, but they are generally pivotal and he had a part in all four scores in the furious comeback against Torino. He punched one home from close range and nailed a penalty kick, then he assisted Lautaro Martinez after a powerful run down the left flank and teed up Alexis Sanchez manhandling some defenders in the box.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic (8 points): another outstanding performance for the Swedish legend, who put together a great brace to topple Napoli in a big spot. The header on the first goal was stupendous, also for the work he did to get open, while he was sly in deflecting the ball with his knee on the second one. Unfortunately, his night was ruined by a potential thigh injury.

Cristiano Ronaldo (8 points): it was top-heavy round in Serie A as the three best players in the League all had braces. The Portuguese ace was the first one from the chronological standpoint, as he lifted Juventus past Cagliari with a precise strike and a nifty flying tap-in.

Honorable mentions: Domenico Berardi, Ciro Immobile, Alexis Sanchez (6 points).
