Juventus Top Performers – Round 13 vs Parma

Juventus finally managed to put together a wire-to-wire victory, heaping misery on Parma, which had been pretty good recently, and taking a clear step forward compared to the recent performances in Serie A.

Gianluigi Buffon (7 points): it was not a super eventful night for the back-line as the Ducali barely charged forward and created a limited number of chances in this one, however the legendary goalie answered the bell on those, making a key intervention in the early going on Jasmin Kurtic that tried to put it through his legs and then with some other decent saves on medium-range attempts. As per the rules, he racked up the most points for the clean sheets. The duo of centre-backs, and a half, did not have to do a whole lot and patrol the middle well, while Alex Sandro contributed to the first goal with a sharp low-driven cross that was slightly nudged by Alvaro Morata before meeting Dejan Kulusevki.

Dejan Kulusevki (6 points): similarly to Federico Chiesa against Atalanta, he was not all that involved, but he delivered on one of his first touches, bagging a surgical lefty cross-shot right in the bottom corner, something he had done multiple times in this stadium last year. Surely a healthy trip to his old stomping grounds after he had lost few spots in the pecking order in previous matches. While he shined in the fantasy game, performance-wise his teammates in the midfield had more noteworthy displays. Rodrigo Bentancur is fully back and recovered countless balls in the midfield, while Weston McKennie is showing that he is more than just an energetic contributor and bust out some good-looking passes and technical plays, while Aaron Ramsey linked up the two lines with efficacy.

Alvaro Morata (8 points): as predictable, the star duo up front bounced back from a rough display and propel the Old Lady past her opponents du jour. Morata took part in all four goals as he deflected Sandro’s cross with his heel to set up Kulusevki, then found Ronaldo with a fantastic cross has he peeled away from defenders and found room on the left flank and finally netted one of his own, putting a pretty header outside of the goalkeeper’s reach. Ronaldo was not to be denied in this one and was also guarded more loosely than usual, as he cut right between two defenders for a routine header that made it two-nothing, then slotted it home later home with a lefty strike from inside the box.
