Serie A Injury and Suspension Report – Round 17

Atalanta: Mario Pasalic is recuperating from sports hernia surgery, but he should not be too far off from returning. Luis Muriel will be available but he is banged up. 

Benevento: Iago Falque (calf) and Gabriele Moncini (ankle) are nursing minor injuries, Andres Tello has a sore knee, while Nicolas Viola is working on his conditioning. Gaetano Letizia was diagnosed with a thigh strain and will miss multiple matches. Luca Caldirola will return in late January. Alessandro Tuia is out with a groin problem. 

Bologna: Matthias Svanberg was sent off in the past game. Nicola Sansone (hip), Lorenzo De Silvestri (thigh), Gary Medel (calf) and Lukas Skorupski (hand) should not be out for much longer but will not return in this round. Ibrahima Mbaye (thigh) will instead need more time. Federico Ravaglia tested positive for COVID.

Cagliari: Nahitan Nandez was handed a two-game suspension. Adam Ounas (thigh) and Diego Godin (calf) have been called up, while  Ragnar Klavan (post COVID) and Paolo Faragò (thigh) remain on the mend. 

Crotone: Ahmad Benali and Luca Cigarini will continue to miss time with calf injuries, while Luca Marrone pulled his thigh. 

Fiorentina: Gaetano Castrovilli is suspended, Frank Ribery turned his knee in the game but the tests ruled out structural damage and he has been called up. 

Genoa: Edoardo Goldaniga is disqualified. Federico Marchetti has been called up while Goran Pandev, Luca Pellegrini, Francesco Cassata and Vittorio Parigini will stay out a little longer. Cristian Zapata will miss three-to-four weeks with a calf strain.

Inter: Danilo D’Ambrosio will be out a month or so with a MCL sprain. Andrea Pinamonti and Matias Vecino remain iffy with ankle issues.

Juventus: Alex Sandro and Juan Cuadrado are going through the COVID protocol, Alvaro Morata is questionable with a minor thigh injury. Matthijs De Ligt tested positive as well. 

Lazio: Mohamed Fares, Dennis Vavro and Joaquin Correa will stay on the shelf with their calf problems. Thomas Strakosha is a late scratch. 

Milan: Hakan Calhanoglu hurt his ankle versus Juventus, but he made the squad list, like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who could make his from two separate muscular problems. Ismael Bennacer and Alexis Saelemaekers (thigh) will remain on the mend. Matteo Gabbia (knee) is week-to-week. Rade Krunic and Ante Rebic have COVID. Simon Kjaer is fatigued. 

Napoli: Kalidou Koulibaly (thigh), Dries Mertens (ankle) and Diego Demme (back) have all been called up. Kevin Malcuit is out calf muscle fatigue.

Parma: Yann Karamoh suffered an adductor strain and will miss multiple games, Riccardo Gagliolo just a pull and will be back sooner. Yordan Osorio is back from some muscle fatigue, Gervinho from a strain. Juraj Kucka and Simone Iacoponi will miss one or two more with calf injuries. Vincent Laurini suffered a significant thigh injury. 

Roma: Leonardo Spinazzola (thigh) is back, Antonio Mirante, Davide Santon (thigh), Federico Fazio (knee), Pedro and Riccardo Calafiori (thigh) remain out. 

Sampdoria: Alex Ferrari is out with a thigh strain.

Sassuolo: Domenico Berardi suffered a flexor strain in the left thigh and will miss three-to-four weeks. Lukas Haraslin and Mehdi Bourabia did not make the squad list for unknown reasons. 

Spezia: Ardian Ismajli is suspended. Andrej Galabinov (thigh), Jeroen Zoet (thigh) and Daniele Verde (calf) have resumed practicing with the rest of their teammates and so their return is nearby: only the goalie is out. Matteo Ricci, Simone Bastoni and Gennaro Acampora have COVID. Federico Mattiello and Jacopo Sala stay out, like few of their fringe contributors that are waiting to depart. Riccardo Saponara is out to work on his form. 

Torino: they do not have injuries but Simone Zaza and Simone Edera were excluded from the squad list in the last round.

Udinese: Fernando Forestieri bowed out early in the past match and will be out multiple matches with a thigh strain. Gerard Deulofeu (foot) and Bram Nuytinck (calf) should be the first ones to come back, but it will not happen in this round, while Stefano Okaka is now expected to return in late January.

Verona: Miguel Veloso will be sidelined for three-to-four weeks with a calf strain, while Darko Lazovic’s problem in the same area is less severe but he will remain out. Pawel Dawidowicz is fatigued but he is available. Ronaldo Vieira and Andrea Favilli are working their way back from thigh strains.
