Premier League Best 11 Players of the Weekend: Matchday 4

The 2020-21 Premier League campaign is set to head into its first international break of the campaign after another thrilling weekend of action that included Aston Villa’s incredible 7-2 victory over champions Liverpool.

Liverpool will be the next team in action when the Premier League returns as they are set for the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on lunchtime of Saturday 17 October.

Before that though, let’s have a look at who the top players were from matchday 4:

Goalkeeper: Edouard Mendy (Chelsea) – 7pts
Four goalkeepers kept a clean sheet in the Premier League over the weekend and we selected Edouard Mendy in the team of the week. The Senegalese goalkeeper was making his Chelsea debut on Saturday lunchtime in helping Frank Lampard’s side keep their first shutout of the new campaign in the 4-0 hammering of Crystal Palace.

Defender: Ben Chilwell (Chelsea) – 15pts
Ben Chilwell was also making his Chelsea debut on Saturday when the left-back opened the scoring and later got an assist to go with his clean sheet in what can only be described as the perfect start from the England international.

Defender: Kurt Zouma (Chelsea) – 12pts
Chelsea dominate our defence as Kurt Zouma’s goal made it 2-0 midway through the second half to help secure three points in the London derby. It’s the centre-back’s second goal in only three Premier League games so far this season, and his first clean sheet.

Defender: Aaron Cresswell (West Ham United) – 12pts
Back-to-back surprise victories have come with clean sheets for West Ham whilst manager David Moyes is self-isolating. The Hammers followed up their 4-0 thrashing of Wolverhampton Wanderers with a 3-0 win away to Leicester City on Sunday lunchtime. Left-back Aaron Cresswell setup two of the goals.

Defender: Serge Aurier (Tottenham Hotspur) – 12pts
The one defender to make the team of the week without keeping a clean sheet is Tottenham Hotspur right-back Serge Aurier. Jose Mourinho’s side were behind within two minutes before coming back to hammer Manchester United 6-1 at Old Trafford. Aurier scored the fifth of those shortly after the break.

Midfielder: Jack Grealish (Aston Villa) – 22pts
The highest point scorer of the weekend was Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish, who remains at the club after deadline day. The midfielder helped himself to a brace in the second half of their 7-2 humiliation of Liverpool at Goodison Park on Sunday night.

Midfielder: John McGinn (Aston Villa) – 11pts
Liverpool had reduced the score to 1-2 through Mohamed Salah in the first half before John McGinn’s goal for the Villans restored their two-goal advantage 10 minutes before the break.

Midfielder: Allan Saint-Maximin (Newcastle United) – 11pts
Allan Saint-Maximin tore into the Burnley defence on Saturday night as he scored in the opening goal in Newcastle’s important 3-1 victory that sees Steve Bruce’s side head into the international break in the top half whilst the Clarets remain pointless.

Striker: Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) – 18pts
The Aston Villa striker marked his recent transfer from Burnley with a first half hat-trick against Liverpool on Sunday night. Dean Smith may have found his man after struggling for goals out of his strikers last season.

Striker: Son Heung-min (Tottenham Hotspur) – 14pts
The South Korean has been deadly to start the new season. Son Heung-min returned from injury to take his place in the starting lineup and score twice in the demolition of Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Striker: Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur) – 13pts
His well-taken goal on half hour proved to be the nail in Manchester United’s coffin by making it 3-1 moments after Anthony Martial’s red card. Harry Kane added a second 10 minutes from time from the penalty spot.

Ligue 1: Week 34: 11 Player Picks for the Weekend

NEZ(1)

PSG were crowned champions for the second year in a row last weekend and it means that the club have won the league every year since 2013 except for Monaco’s triumph in 2017. PSG will play Rennes in the Coupe de France final at the weekend but a few days later will make up for their weekend game when they take on Montpellier.

Champions League and Europa League places are still to be decided and we look at the forthcoming fixtures to try and identify which players we think will be able to earn your Ligue 1 Fantasy team valuable points over the weekend. Formation: 4-4-2.

Goalkeeper: Mike Maignan- Lille

Mike Maignan has done well this season but Lille will be at home to Nimes and will be the favourites to win the game and not only that Lille will be looking to keep a clean sheet. They did so in their last game v Toulouse. Maignan is just 5m to add to your team.

Defender: Malang Sarr- Nice

Malang Sarr has been a rock in defence for Nice even if they are not going through the best form he is part of a team that have conceded just 2 goals in their last 5 games. Sarr is 5.5m and is rated as Nice’s best defender in Ligue 1 Fantasy rankings.

Defender: Dante Costa- Nice

Dante Costa has been brilliant in recent weeks for Nice and alongside Sarr has been part of a team that have conceded the least amount of goals in Ligue 1 this month. Nice are at home against Guingamp and can keep yet another clean sheet. Costa is valued at 6.5m.

Defender: Hiroki Sakai- Marseille

Sakai has proven to be Marseille’s best defender, he doesn’t score many goals, just 1 this season but his job is to keep clean sheets. Marseille are going for a Champions League place and they will be at home to a leaky Nantes defence. Sakai can be in your team for 7.5m.

Defender: Alexander Djiku- Caen

You would think picking a defender who plays for a team who are in 19th makes no sense. But Caen are not giving up just yet and have kept 2 clean sheets from their last five games including their last match which was a fantastic win over Lyon. Djiku should be looked in if you don’t already have him and he is available at 7m.

Midfielder: Enzo Crivelli- Caen

We are sticking with another Caen player. The reason is that Enzo Crivelli is classed as a midfielder/striker but usually isn’t short of goals. He has scored 5 and assisted in 6 this season and Caen are playing a similar quality of side Dijon and they are at home so will try and go for this game. Crivelli is valued at 5.5m.

Midfielder: Wahbi Khazri- Saint Etienne

Khazri has his fair share of goals this season, 13 to be precise and the club will be playing Toulouse at home. Saint Etienne are in very good form and Khazri has put in some great displays in the past few weeks and is worth adding to your team for this weekend for 7.5m.

Midfielder: Florian Thauvin- Marseille

Everyone knows of Thauvin’s obvious qualities but this is the business end for Marseille now who are still hoping to get a Champions League place or at the very least a top 5 end to the season. The club will be playing Nantes at home and Thauvin is valued at 11m.

Midfielder: Adrien Silva- Monaco

Monaco will play Rennes who have been in even poorer form than them, and yes the game is away from home but Silva at times this season has been a rock in midfield for the club and has the ability to try and support the defence and even score some goals himself. He can be brought into your team for 5m.

Striker: Allan Saint-Maximin -Nice

Allan Saint-Maximin has not scored as many goals as he would like this season with 6, but at the same time Nice are on their last games now and are at home v Guingamp. He has assisted a few times too where he can earn some valuable points. Nice will be expected to win and get some goals. He is 5m.

Striker: Neymar- PSG

Yes Neymar is valued at 14.5m and that will be too high for many people, but picking him this week could be worth your investment. He came back from a long time off injured and looked rusty but should be back to his best when PSG take on Montpellier. He knows how to get goals and will be hungry to have a strong finish to the season.
