Huesca slip into free fall after strong start

La Liga new boys Huesca are beginning to find life in the top flight tough going, after an excellent start to their first ever season in the division.

After finishing in second place in the Segunda Division last season, Huesca sealed their first ever foray into La Liga, alongside Rayo Vallecano and Real Valladolid.

The season started well for the club from Aragon, with an opening weekend win away at Eibar, followed by a 2-2 draw at home to Athletic Bilbao.

La Liga always possessed a fantasic ability to present new teams to follow, away from the leading lights of the Spanish top flight, and so far this season it has been all about Huesca.

The side from a small city in the community of Aragon, with smallest stadium ever to play in La Liga, has laid down an unbeaten marker in their first ever top tier games.

An opening day 2-1 win away at Eibar caused plenty to sit up and take notice of the newly promoted side, but a 2-2 draw in Week Two at Athletic Bilbao has really raised a few eyebrows.

Huesca sign Ruben Semedo, accused of attempted murder

There will surely not be a stranger reasoning for a deal in European football this summer than that which took Villarreal defender Ruben Semedo on loan from Villarreal to newly promoted Huesca.

The central defender – who only joined the Yellow Submarine a year ago in a €14m deal from Portuguese giants Sporting CP – has joined Huesca on a season-long loan deal. The astonishing aspect of the move is that the Portuguese player is awaiting trial on charges of attempted murder, kidnapping and robbery. Continue reading
