La Liga: Best 11 Players of Week 35

Wow, just wow. The race for the La Liga champions is not for the faint hearted. The top 4 sides all drew this past weekend. First it was Atletico which seemed to let Barcelona in and then it was Barca and that seemed to hand the advantage to Real Madrid who had to beat Sevilla.

However Sevilla almost won that game and were leading Real Madrid 2-1 but Real found a way and the game ended 2-2. It means that with just 3 games left to play Atletico have 77 points and Real Madrid and Barcelona have 75. Sevilla are almost out of the title race now and if Atletico beat Real Sociedad in midweek then Sevilla’s title chances are officially over.

With all that excitement in the bag let’s take a look at the players who made the team of the week.

Goalkeeper: Jan Oblak- Atletico Madrid 7pts

Jan Oblak is believed to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world and he proved it yet again as Atletico drew 0-0 away to Barcelona in a crucial game for the league leaders. Oblak made some superb saves and in total Barcelona had 7 shots on target but couldn’t find a way through.

Defender: Jose Gaya- Valencia 7pts

Jose Gaya kept a clean sheet as Valencia cruised to a 3-0 win over Valladolid. But Gaya earned some more points as he assisted in one of the goals, that’s his 6th assist of the season so far.

Defender: Mario Hermoso- Atletico Madrid 5pts

Mario Hermoso made some vital tackles as Atletico’s back four was tested to the limit as they managed to keep a clean sheet against Barcelona. Hermoso now has 74 points for the season.

Defender: Serginho Dest- Barcelona 5pts

Serginho Dest has had a good personal season with Barcelona and when he was called into action he helped Barca to keep a clean sheet as they drew 0-0 with Atletico Madrid in a tense game. Dest has helped to keep 10 clean sheets.

Defender: Robin Le Normand- Real Sociedad 5pts

Le Normand helped Real Sociedad to keep a clean sheet as they beat Elche 2-0 at the weekend. That is the 11th time the club have been able to do that when he has been in the team.

Midfielder: Ivan Rakitic- Sevilla 6pts

This was an interesting game for Ivan Rakitic who scored the penalty for Sevilla which seemed to have condemned Real Madrid to defeat. It felt as though Rakitic had done his former club Barcelona a huge favour as he scored a penalty which put them 2-1 up against Real Madrid, but the game ended 2-2.

Midfielder: Jose Luis Recio del Pozo- Eibar 6pts

Also known simply as Recio the midfielder scored the only goal of the game as Eibar won 1-0 against Getafe. It was a tense time too as it was an 89th minute penalty but Eibar with the help of Recio got all 3 points in the end.

Midfielder: Carlos Soler- Valencia 4pts

Carlos Soler is in great form and he earned another 4 points as he assisted in the clubs 2nd goal of the game in which they beat Valladolid 3-0. That was his 7th assist of the season and he has been involved in 16 goals so far this season.

Midfielder: Fernando- Sevilla 4pts

Fernando opened the scoring for Sevilla as they nearly stunned Real Madrid in a game which in the end finished 2-2. That was only the midfielder’s third goal of the season.

Striker: Jose Luis Morales- Levante 8pts

What a great weekend for Jose Luis Morales who scored both of his clubs goals as they drew 2-2 away to Alaves. Morales scored the goals in quick succession but the final results wasn’t to be. He has an impressive 13 goals so far now.

Striker: Maximiliano Gomez- Valencia 8pts

Gomez was able to score 2 goals as Valencia beat Valladolid 3-0 and it was an important win for the home side as they recorded their first victory in five games. Gomez now has seven goals for the season and is valued at 7.5m.

La Liga: Best 11 Players of Week 26

The heat is on Atletico Madrid who could only draw 1-1 in the Madrid derby. Atletico are just 3 points in front of Barcelona but do have a game extra to play over them.

Barcelona are in great form and have won 3 games in a row and they are chasing down Atletico and Real Madrid are still in the title hunt but are 5 points behind Atletico. Will Sevilla qualify for the Champions League? The club were in a safe position in 4th it seemed but 2 losses in a row and have let in Real Sociedad who are now just 3 points behind them and Real Betis are in good form having won their last 4 games in a row.

Goalkeeper: Marc ter Stegen- Barcelona 7pts

Only Marc ter Stegen kept a clean sheet away from home during the past weekend in La Liga as Barcelona beat Osasuna 2-0. Osasuna remained a threat and had some good chances on goal too. The Barca keeper has kept 9 clean sheets so far and his value is 10m.

Defender: Jordi Alba- Barcelona 9pts

Jordi Alba had the perfect game for Barcelona as he helped to keep his 11th clean sheet of the season as Barcelona beat Osasuna away from home 2-0. But the icing on the cake for the defender was that he earned extra points by scoring only his 3rd goal of the season as he opened the scoring.

Defender: Robin Le Nomand- Real Sociedad 5pts

Robin Le Nomand has a total of 32 points and has helped to keep nine clean sheets. The defender put in a good shift as Sociedad beat Levante 1-0 at the weekend and he commanded the back four well. His value is 6.5m.

Defender: Cala- Cadiz 5pts

Cala was instrumental again for Cadiz and the player has been one of the reasons that the club have impressed this season. Cala earned another 5 points at the weekend with his seventh clean sheet of the season. He now has a total of 14 points and his value is just 2.5m.

Defender: Serginho Dest- Barcelona 5pts

Serginho Dest has been a success story this season for Barcelona and he now has a total of 36 points after keeping his 8th clean sheet of the season. Dest played very well and was confident throughout distributing the ball well out of defence as he oversaw a Barcelona victory against Osasuna to keep up their title challenge.

Midfielder: Joaquin Sanchez- Real Betis 4pts

When Joaquin Sanchez came on in the 2nd half Real Betis were 2-0 down at home to Alaves and looked out for the count. But Sanchez made an impact and scored the clubs equaliser as they came back and won the game 3-2. It was Sanchez’s 2nd goal of the campaign so far.

Midfielder: Fran Beltran- Celta Vigo 4pts

Celta Vigo were involved in an incredible seven goal thriller at the weekend away to Huesca with Celta Vigo finally coming through as 4-3 winners. It was midfielder Fran Beltran who struck for the 4th goal and the winner to earn himself 4 points.

Midfielder: David Ferreiro-Huesca 4pts

David Ferreiro ended up being on the losing side as Huesca scored 3 goals at home but it wasn’t enough as they lost the game 4-3 to Celta Vigo in a classic goal fest match. The midfielder scored the third goal to make it 3-3 and thought he had at least earned his club a point but it wasn’t to be, his goal did get him into the team of the week though.

Midfielder: Carlos Soler- Valencia 3pts

Soler scored the equaliser for Valencia as they eventually went on to come back from 1-0 down to beat Villarreal 2-1. Soler scored from the penalty spot and that was his seventh goal of the season so far.

Striker: Manuel Nolito- Celta Vigo 6pts

Manuel Nolito had a very busy game as he assisted in Celta Vigo’s opening goal against Huesca and then at 1-2 scored the equaliser. He earned six points because of this and he has a total of 23 points so far his value is 6.5m.

Striker: Borja Iglesias- Real Betis 8pts

In a week where strikers really didn’t turn up in La Liga Borja Iglesias showed them how to earn points. The forward earned 8 of them as Real Betis stunned Alaves and came back from 2 goals down to win the game 3-2. Iglesias scored Betis’ first goal and then scored the third and last one to cap a memorable performance in a memorable game.
