La Liga: Best 11 Players of Week 26

The heat is on Atletico Madrid who could only draw 1-1 in the Madrid derby. Atletico are just 3 points in front of Barcelona but do have a game extra to play over them.

Barcelona are in great form and have won 3 games in a row and they are chasing down Atletico and Real Madrid are still in the title hunt but are 5 points behind Atletico. Will Sevilla qualify for the Champions League? The club were in a safe position in 4th it seemed but 2 losses in a row and have let in Real Sociedad who are now just 3 points behind them and Real Betis are in good form having won their last 4 games in a row.

Let’s take a look below at who made the team of the week in Spain over the past week, in a formation of 4-4-2.

Goalkeeper: Marc ter Stegen- Barcelona 7pts

Only Marc ter Stegen kept a clean sheet away from home during the past weekend in La Liga as Barcelona beat Osasuna 2-0. Osasuna remained a threat and had some good chances on goal too. The Barca keeper has kept 9 clean sheets so far and his value is 10m.

Defender: Jordi Alba- Barcelona 9pts

Jordi Alba had the perfect game for Barcelona as he helped to keep his 11th clean sheet of the season as Barcelona beat Osasuna away from home 2-0. But the icing on the cake for the defender was that he earned extra points by scoring only his 3rd goal of the season as he opened the scoring.

Defender: Robin Le Nomand- Real Sociedad 5pts

Robin Le Nomand has a total of 32 points and has helped to keep nine clean sheets. The defender put in a good shift as Sociedad beat Levante 1-0 at the weekend and he commanded the back four well. His value is 6.5m.

Defender: Cala- Cadiz 5pts

Cala was instrumental again for Cadiz and the player has been one of the reasons that the club have impressed this season. Cala earned another 5 points at the weekend with his seventh clean sheet of the season. He now has a total of 14 points and his value is just 2.5m.

Defender: Serginho Dest- Barcelona 5pts

Serginho Dest has been a success story this season for Barcelona and he now has a total of 36 points after keeping his 8th clean sheet of the season. Dest played very well and was confident throughout distributing the ball well out of defence as he oversaw a Barcelona victory against Osasuna to keep up their title challenge.

Midfielder: Joaquin Sanchez- Real Betis 4pts

When Joaquin Sanchez came on in the 2nd half Real Betis were 2-0 down at home to Alaves and looked out for the count. But Sanchez made an impact and scored the clubs equaliser as they came back and won the game 3-2. It was Sanchez’s 2nd goal of the campaign so far.

Midfielder: Fran Beltran- Celta Vigo 4pts

Celta Vigo were involved in an incredible seven goal thriller at the weekend away to Huesca with Celta Vigo finally coming through as 4-3 winners. It was midfielder Fran Beltran who struck for the 4th goal and the winner to earn himself 4 points.

Midfielder: David Ferreiro-Huesca 4pts

David Ferreiro ended up being on the losing side as Huesca scored 3 goals at home but it wasn’t enough as they lost the game 4-3 to Celta Vigo in a classic goal fest match. The midfielder scored the third goal to make it 3-3 and thought he had at least earned his club a point but it wasn’t to be, his goal did get him into the team of the week though.

Midfielder: Carlos Soler- Valencia 3pts

Soler scored the equaliser for Valencia as they eventually went on to come back from 1-0 down to beat Villarreal 2-1. Soler scored from the penalty spot and that was his seventh goal of the season so far.

Striker: Manuel Nolito- Celta Vigo 6pts

Manuel Nolito had a very busy game as he assisted in Celta Vigo’s opening goal against Huesca and then at 1-2 scored the equaliser. He earned six points because of this and he has a total of 23 points so far his value is 6.5m.

Striker: Borja Iglesias- Real Betis 8pts

In a week where strikers really didn’t turn up in La Liga Borja Iglesias showed them how to earn points. The forward earned 8 of them as Real Betis stunned Alaves and came back from 2 goals down to win the game 3-2. Iglesias scored Betis’ first goal and then scored the third and last one to cap a memorable performance in a memorable game.

La Liga: Best 11 Players of Week 12

Atletico Madrid remain the only team in La Liga unbeaten and they went top by a point after beating Valladolid. Real Sociedad had to concede top place as they drew their 2nd game in a row- is the pressure getting to the club?

Real Madrid narrowly beat Sevilla 1-0 to stay in 4th place but it was more sad news for an indifferent Barcelona side who lost their 4th game of the season 2-1 at Cadiz. Barcelona are 12 points behind Atletico and that has to be a worrying site for fans to see. Cadiz themselves have been a surprise package and are in fifth place with 18 points.

Below we take a look at the star performers from this past weekend.

Goalkeeper: Fernando Pacheco- Alaves 7pts

Fernando Pacheco put in a great performance for Alaves as he had to keep the then league leaders Real Sociedad quiet. The game finished 0-0 and Pacheco made some good saves. He has been in good form for Alaves and kept 4 clean sheets so far.

Defender: Kieran Trippier- Atletico Madrid 9pts

Kieran Trippier is becoming a regular fixture to teams of the weeks in La Liga and here he is again. In beating Valladolid, Atletico kept yet another clean sheet. However Trippier also earned points by assisting in both of the goals in a 2-0 win that has sent Atletico to the top of the league. Trippier has 3 assists this season and has 46 points overall.

Defender: Hugo Mallo- Celta Vigo 9pts

Hugo Mallo earned 9 points at the weekend as Celta Vigo ovecame Athletic Bilbao 2-0. Mallo kept a clean sheet and scored the opening goal of the match, to cap off a perfect weekend for the defender.

Defender: Raphael Varane- Real Madrid 5pts

Raphael Varane is now Real Madrid’s 2nd best defender in the fantasy rankings and he earned another 5 points at the weekend helping his side keep a clean sheet in a tricky 1-0 win away to Sevilla.

Defender: Carlos Clerc-Levante 7pts

Carlos Clerc has zero points now as his seven earned at the weekend helped him eradicate a minus score in the fantasy points. Levante beat Getafe 3-0 and not only did Clerc earn points for a clean sheet which is his first of the season but he also set up the 2nd goal.

Midfielder: Marcos Llorente- Atletico Madrid 6pts

Alongside Portu of Real Sociedad Marcos Llorente is the equal best midfielder in La Liga’s fantasy points and now has a total of 34. Llorente only came on as a 2nd half substitute but scored Atletico’s 2nd goal which effectively wrapped up the game, that was his 4th goal of the season so far.

Midfielder: Thomas Lemar- Atletico Madrid 6pts

Thomas Lemar opened the scoring for Atletico and in turn earned six points for the weekend. That was Lemar’s first goal of the season and his value is 6m, he now has 16 points for the season.

Midfielder: Joaquin Sanchez- Real Betis 4pts

Joaquin Sanchez hasn’t scored any goals so far this season but he assisted in his 2nd of this campaign as Betis impressively beat Osasuna 2-0 away from home.

Midfielder: Borja- Huesca 4pts

Huesca were involved in a six goal thriller at the weekend as away from home they drew 3-3 with Granada. Borja now has 8 points and his value is 7m

Striker: Alvaro Negredo- Cadiz 4pts

This wasn’t the weekend for strikers to earn many points but Alvaro Negredo deserves his four. Negredo came on for Cadiz against Barcelona just after the hour mark and 60 seconds later he had scored to make it 2-1 to the home side who claimed a famous victory. Negredo now has 3 goals and he has assisted in a further three also.

Striker: Roger- Levante 5pts

Roger opened the scoring as Levante beat Getafe 3-0 to escape the relegation zone. He lost points as he was shown a yellow. Roger has been involved in 5 goals for the club and has scored 3 so far and his value is worth 6m.

Best 11 Players of the Weekend in La Liga: Matchday 20

Barcelona won and Real Madrid also and the two giants of Spanish football remain locked in at the top on the same points. They now have an 8 point lead over 3rd placed Atletico Madrid who lost their 3rd game of the season. Let’s take a look at what players in La Liga performed the best in matchday 20.

Formation: 4-4-2

Goalkeeper: Marko Dmitrovic- Eibar

Many goalkeepers earned 7 points with clean sheets but it is Eibar’s Marko Dmitrovic who stood out. The reason being he made some vital saves and ended up keeping a clean sheet against Atletico Madrid, no mean feat at all. He now has 9 points and is valued at 6.5m.

Defender: Leandro Cabrera- Getafe

Leandro  Cabrera was brilliant as his side won 3-0 over Leganes and he earned 9 points, thus he kept a clean sheet and also he opened the scoring which would lead to the win. It was a perfect weekend for the defender who has 29 points and is valued at 5.5m.

Defender: Allan-Romeo Nyom- Getafe

Just like Cabrera, Nyom had a great weekend as part of the defence that kept a clean sheet and he also scored a goal. He only earned 8 points though as he was also booked in an eventful game. He is valued at 6m.

Defender: Damien Suarez- Getafe

Sticking with Getafe, Suarez earned 7 points as the club beat Leganes in a 3-0 game which was one sided. This was his 4th clean sheet this season and he now has  total of 14 points and is valued at 7.5m.

Defender: Samuel Umtiti- Barcelona

This was a very important game for Samuel Umtiti playing his first game for new Barcelona manager Quique Setien and only his 5th start of the season so there was a lot to prove as Barcelona won their game 1-0. Umtiti can be brought into your team for 7.5m.

Midfielder: Casemiro- Real Madrid

Real Madrid recorded a 2-1 win over Sevilla and Casemiro was brilliant in scoring 2 goals and he earned 7 points. It would have been more but he lost some through being booked near the end of the game. The player now has 25 points and is valued at 7.5m.

Midfielder: Sergio Canales- Real Betis

Sergio Canales earned 8 points from midfield as Real Betis beat Real Sociedad 3-0. Canales assisted in the opening goal and then scored the 3rd and final one to top off a great days work. He now has 15 points and is valued at 7.5m.

Midfielder: Joaquin Sanchez- Real Betis

Joaquin Sanchez was brilliant in midfield as Betis beat Sociedad 3-0. He helped the team keep a clean sheet, attacked well and he scored. It was his 7th goal of the season and he has been rather outstanding this term. He can be bought for 7.5m.

Midfielder: Arturo Vidal- Barcelona

Striker: Ante Budimir- Mallorca

Ante Budimir earned a whopping 10 points at the weekend as his side beat Valencia 4-1 and Budimir had his game of the season. He scored 2 goals winning the game and assisted in the last goal. He has 8 goals now this season and can be brought into your team for 6.5m.

Striker: Lionel Messi- Barcelona

Another cracking weekend of action in La Liga saw Eibar get their first league win of the campaign against Real Sociedad, while Barcelona put the brakes on Huesca’s decent start with a hammering. We are going to go for a 4-4-2 formation for this week’s La Liga Best XI.
