Top Goalkeepers of the Season – La Liga

Oblak

La Liga came down to the final round of matches and it was Real Madrid who ended a five-year wait and were crowned champions. In an attacking league which provides many goals, we take a look at the other end of the field and take a look at the best performing goalkeepers of this season.

Jan Oblak – Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid were their usual consistent selves this season and will be happy with a 3rd place finish that will see them qualify for the Champions League. Jan Oblak is among the highest rated goalkeepers in the world and with 15 clean sheets in 30 matches, he has the statistics to back that up. He conceded just 22 goals over the course of the season and racked up a hugely impressive 90 points. Valued at just 5.5M, his price/performance ratio is 17.6.

Marc ter Stegen – Barcelona

By their high standards, Barcelona have had a disappointing season, both in La Liga and the Champions League. Marc ter Stegen finished the season with 70 points, 20 behind overall leader Jan Oblak and in 36 starts he kept 13 clean sheets. He conceded 33 goals this season and his value of 7.5M gives him a price/performance ratio of 9.1.

Sergio Asenjo – Villarreal

Villarreal fell just short of the Champions League places, finishing 5 points adrift of Sevilla, however, with a Europa League campaign to look forward to next season, they will be pleased with their efforts this season. Goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo has been a hugely influential figure with 11 clean sheets in 24 starts. He racked up a total of 67 points and conceded just 18 goals. He is valued at just 3.5M and his price/performance ratio is a massive 18.6.

Fernando Pacheco – Deportivo Alaves

Deportivo Alaves had a storming end to their season and went a total of seven matches undefeated in a row. Despite finishing 9th in La Liga, their goalkeeper Fernando Pacheco was a stand-out keeper in the division. He started 36 matches and kept a clean sheet on 11 occasions. He is valued at 5.5M and his price/performance ratio is 8.2.

Kepa Arrizabalaga – Athletic Bilbao
