Premier League Club Preview – Chelsea

hazard
Chelsea were almost flawless in their league-winning campaign last season. However, no club has won consecutive Premier League titles since 2008-09, and it would take even a bigger effort for them if they aim to repeat their success.

Man City and Man Utd have reinforced their squads significantly this season, while the Blues have lost one of their key players in Diego Costa. Besides Costa, they have also sold Nemanja Matic to Man Utd in what is believed to be a £40m deal.

The Blues also benefitted from the lack of European football last season, but this season, they would need to content on both fronts. The new season has already started on a sour note as the Blues lost to Arsenal in Community Shield on Sunday, but they would be looking to get back to the winning ways in their season opener against Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

It’s not like the Blues haven’t splashed the cash in the market themselves. Alvaro Morata has arrived in a £58m deal from Real Madrid. The Spaniard, who enjoyed a less-than-impressive debut in the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal, is available for just 7.5m in the EuroFantasyLeague market. At this value, he is a great addition to any fantasy team. Last season, the 24-year-old made 26 appearances for Real including just 14 starts. He scored 14 goals and provided four assists for a total of 36 points.

Tiemoue Bakayoko is another big-money arrival at Stamford Bridge this summer. The 22-year-old French midfielder has arrived in a £40m deal from Monaco. He was a key part of Monaco’s Ligue 1 title-winning team last season. However, as a central midfielder, he doesn’t feature much amongst goals and assists and doesn’t make for an attractive proposition in fantasy football. He made 32 league appearances last season and contributed with two goals and an assist for a point-total of 32. Like last season, his value in the market stands at 3.5m.

In the defensive department, centre-back Antonio Rudiger has arrived in a £29m deal from AS Roma. The 24-year-old is a must-buy at 2m in the fantasy market. He made 26 appearances last season, and managed a total of 11 clean sheets and made a couple of assists. He also earned a red card for Roma last season. At the end of the season, his point-total stood at 40.

Goalkeeper Willy Caballero has also arrived on a free transfer from Manchester City on a free transfer as a replacement for Asmir Begovic.
