La Liga Midfielder Spotlight

The new La Liga season is just one-week old, and we are back with our players guide to help you navigate through your fantasy football problems.

On the opening day, Real Madrid and Barcelona registered expected victories while Atletico Madrid could only manage a 2-2 draw with newcomers Girona. In the end, it was a satisfying result for Atletico, who had lost Antoine Griezmann to a red card in the 67th-minute with score 2-0 in the favour of their opponents.

Even though the league is just one-week old, the usual heavyweights seem to have already registered their dominance at the top end of our list. As things stand, all top five midfielders in La Liga belong to the big three of the league.

Gareth Bale of Real Madrid was the top-performing midfielder in the first week of La Liga. The Wales international scored one goal and assisted another in the 3-0 win at Deportivo La Coruna. Bale, who is the most expensive midfielder in the league at 13m, picked up eight points in game week 1. Los Blancos next play Valencia at home, and we expect Bale to continue his impressive form.

The second spot in our list is occupied by another Real Madrid midfielder in Tony Kroos. The German, who also scored in the opening-day win, has six points in total. He is significantly cheaper than Bale at 8.5m in the market.

Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro has emerged as a key player in Zinedine Zidane’s side of late, and he was once again on target in the win over La Coruna. He is cheaper than both of his teammates at 5.5m in the EuroFantasyLeague transfer market and has already put six points on the board.

Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto is the only Catalonian representation on our list. The 25-year-old scored the second goal for his side in the 2-0 win over Real Betis on the opening weekend. He is priced at 6m in the market, and after one game, he has six points in his account. Barcelona will travel to Alaves this weekend, and we expect the Spaniard to be a crucial figure for his side in the game.

The last spot in our list is taken by Atletico midfielder Angel Correa. The 22-year-old didn’t even start for Atletico against Girona, and only joined the game as a 58th-minute substitute. However, in his cameo, he inspired Atletico comeback by scoring their first goal in the 2-2 draw. Correa, who is available for 4m in the market, finished the game with four points. In the absence of Antonio Griezmann, he is expected to start for Atletico against Las Palmas on Saturday night.
