La Liga Midfielder Spotlight – Round 2

asensio
After two game weeks in the new season of La Liga, Real Sociedad surprisingly find themselves at the top of the league table. Besides Sociedad, only Barcelona and minnows Leganes have managed to maintain perfect starts this season.

Real Madrid were held 2-2 at home by Valencia and they have slipped to the fifth spot in the table. However, a Real Madrid player sits at top of our midfielder spotlight ahead of the game week 3. Marco Asensio has started one game and made one substitute appearance this season, and he has already put together ten points. He has scored one goal and has assisted another in the first two games. At 5m in the market, he could prove to be a very sound investment this season. He is also the most favourite La Liga midfielder among the fantasy football players as 14% of them currently have him in their teams.

Atletico could only draw on the opening weekend, but they registered an impressive 5-1 win at Las Palmas on the second game day and are currently fourth in the table. Koke scored a brace in that win, and he is second in our list with ten points. He also has an assist from the opening day of the season. However, the Spaniard is quite expensive at 9m in the market.

Koke’s Atletico teammate Angel Correa is the next name on our list. Correa scored in his substitute appearance on the opening day, and he was granted a start against Las Palmas. He was on target in that game too, and he now has eight points on the board. He is valued at a modest 4m in the market and he is definitely a good option for your fantasy football side.

Gareth Bale of Real Madrid has slipped down to the fourth spot in our list. The Wales forward has one goal and one assist for his total of eight points. Bale, who failed to pick up a point in the draw against Valencia, is the most expensive La Liga midfielder at 13m in the market.

Sergi Roberto is the only Barcelona midfielder among the top five midfielders in La Liga. He is priced at 6m in the market and has seven points to show for his efforts. He has certainly benefitted from the clean sheets in the opening two games, and he has also scored a goal.

Xabi Prieto of Real Sociedad and Casemiro of Real Madrid also deserves special mention at their bargain prices and could prove to be good investments as the season progresses.
