Best Midfielders in Serie A – Week 13

perotti

Few midfielders found the bottom of the goal this week. Here are the top 5 performers.

1) Diego Perotti: he was one of the two midfielders to earn six points, thanks to a goal and the clean sheet. He was ice cold from the penalty in yet another display of his mesmerizing technique. The goal was crucial and deservedly gave the lead to Roma in the Derby. He was a boss all night long and also set up Radja Nainggolan for that thunderous striker. As he admitted last week, it is the best moment of his career.

2) Joao Pedro: he was fielded in a more advantageous position for him, as lone no.10 behind a striker, and scored thanks to a mishap between Albano Bizzarri and Danilo, which left him alone on an apparently harmless cross. The goal was lucky, but he led the charge all afternoon with his energy. He has already scored four times this season and should soon become indispensable in Diego Lopez’s lineup as well, no matter the role.

3) Luca Rigoni: Milan Juric did not take well the fact that he asked to leave this summer because of a diminished role and put him in the dog house for few weeks, but he proved to be a vital contributor to Genoa’s cause. He scored on his customary sneaky cut in the box, which gifted his team of an all-important victory. He figures to have a big part in Ballardini’s scheme. Only the yellow card knocked him down a spot.

4) Lucas Torreira: his play as deep-lying midfielder has always been brilliant since moving to Sampdoria, but this year he is scoring too and they are usually stunners. This time, he buried it from just outside of the box, putting Juventus down two-nil. He will be extremely coveted this summer, if not already in January.

5) Godfred Donsah: he gained four points too thanks to his goal, which capped Bologna’s quick late comeback over Hellas Verona. After a down period, he is now living up to his potential and has re-claimed the starting job. It was his second goal of the season.
