The Serie A games this week spread from Friday to Monday. Napoli-Juventus is obviously the most anticipated one, but there are few interesting match-ups. Here are the striker picks.
Mauro Icardi: right now, he is the deadliest weapon in Serie A. He has scored two braces in the last two weeks, against Atalanta and Cagliari, where he once again proved that he just needs a little bit of room in the box to hurt the opponents. He is up to 15 goals in the season. Inter will host Chievo Verona, which have struggled against top teams over the last two seasons.
Simone Verdi: he is on a tear as he scored and assisted three times in the last three games. One of the classiest players in Serie A, he will have another opportunity to deliver as Bologna face Cagliari, whose performances on the road have been uneven.
Gianluca Lapadula: after months on the shelf because of two different injuries, he has finally started to contribute for Genoa. He bothered the whole Roma defence with his tenacity and earned a penalty, which he scored. Hellas Verona are coming off a good result, but they have the second worst defence in the League.
Stephan El Shaarawy: he scored against his former team last week immediately after he was moved to the left. Roma could do rotate the squad a little because of the decisive Champions League game that is coming up, anyway the match-up, at home against Spal, is very saucy. While Edin Dzeko is being engulfed by defenders, the wingers El Shaarawy and Diego Perotti are enjoying more freedom to operate.
Giovanni Simeone: while he has not scored that much, only four times, he is more and more involved in the offence and he has tallied four assists in the last seven matches. Fiorentina will host Sassuolo, which are in flux after sacking Cristian Bucchi and could need a little more time before gelling under Giuseppe Iachini.
Andrea Belotti: he resumed scoring in Coppa Italia against Carpi after a lenghty drought, also caused by a knee sprain. He play in midweek just for this very purpose. He can be streaky and his physical condition is trending upwards: he could hurt Atalanta.
Duvan Zapata: Sampdoria will have to make up for the poor showing against Bologna on the road. They won five out of five at home, including against Juventus. Another high caliber enemy awaits them, Lazio, but they have looked untouchable at Marassi. Four of the five Zapata’s goals have come here.
Daniele Verde: he scored against Sassuolo and has been playing very well lately. In the last game he was used as a false-nine due to tactical reasons and because Giampaolo Pazzini is a little banged up. He might have another chance to do the same against Genoa.
Marcello Trotta: he will lead the Crotone attack due to Ante Budimir against an Udinese team that have had problems on the road. The Sharks no showed against Juventus and lost against Genoa in the last home game, so they need to redeem themselves.
Lorenzo Insigne: he will lead the charge against Juventus in an all-important game. He has been excellent in the past few weeks and the Bianconeri have already conceded ten times on the road so far.
