Premier League Picks – Week 25

mancity-walkeraguero

This coming weekend sees the FA Cup make its glorious return to action for this season’s fourth round, and so we have to wait until midweek next week for the next set of Premier League games, before regular weekend action follows a couple of days later. Good things come to those who wait, they say – and there are a couple of interesting fixtures in that round of games to say the least.

The biggest game of that round is arguably Liverpool taking on Tottenham, but we also have Man Utd hoping to get revenge on Premier League new boys Huddersfield after the Terriers’ 2-1 win in the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign.

With that said, it is now time to take a look at which players are worth keeping an eye on in the next round of Premier League games next week. We are going 4-3-3 for this one.

GK – David De Gea

Man Utd will be eager to get their own back on Huddersfield for the latter’s victory earlier in the season, and Huddersfield have been struggling a touch lately. De Gea seems the best bet to keep a clean sheet.

DF – Nacho Monreal

The defender played superbly for just over half an hour before going off injured as Arsenal beat Crystal Palace, scoring a goal and assisting two more. We are still waiting on word regarding his injury in that game, but if he features he could be a good bet as Arsenal take on Everton.

DF – Aaron Cresswell

The West Ham defender may have to be at his best when the Hammers travel to Brighton, but their hosts are the Premier League’s lowest scorers so far this season. Cresswell will be confident of getting the job done.

DF – Kyle Walker

Man City travel to Burnley in Saturday’s (3rd Feb) early kickoff, and while the Clarets can always pose a threat City are still brimming with confidence. Back Walker and co to frustrate Burnley’s forwards and march on to another three points.

DF – Phil Jones

Jones joins Man Utd team-mate David De Gea on this week’s list. The journey to Huddersfield could be fraught with banana skins (and all those other clichés), but Jose Mourinho’s men will be well prepared for the trip.

MF – Mohamed Salah

The Liverpool star has been a revelation this season, and has become the Premier League’s first 100-point player in the Euro Fantasy League game this season. He will be well up for the challenge of Tottenham’s visit, and could do some damage to Spurs if he is on his game.

MF – Riyad Mahrez

Leicester host bottom club Swansea for their next Premier League outing, and while the Swans recorded a wonderful victory over Liverpool last time out the Foxes will fancy their chances. Mahrez is another player who can do some damage, and should thrive on games like this one.

MF – Jesse Lingard

Another Man Utd player here, Lingard has been consistently winning points in recent weeks. A player who just seems to get better and better, he will continue to stake his claim for a place at the World Cup.

ST – Harry Kane

Tottenham have that difficult trip to Anfield to contend with, and joining opponent on that day Salah is Spurs striker Harry Kane. He had a wonderful 2017, sending records tumbling, but tests such as this one require his trademark impact.

ST – Alexandre Lacazette

Potentially flanked by new Gunner Henrik Mkhitaryan, Lacazette will be keen to get on the pitch and see what the Armenian can do for him. The home game against Everton could be a spot on testing ground for that.

ST – Sergio Aguero

The Argentinian will be taking to the field at Turf Moor on the back of a hattrick in the home game against Newcastle last time out. That is some good momentum to carry into the second half of the season, so he will be doing everything he can to keep it up against Burnley.

So that’s the list for this week – the 11 players to watch out for in the next round of Premier League games.
