La Liga Best XI – Week 4

gayaThis past weekend saw Barcelona move two points clear at the top of La Liga following their tight 2-1 win at Real Sociedad, with Real Madrid having dropped points, their 1-1 at Athletic Bilbao ending their 100% start to the campaign. With that in mind, let us now take a look at which players performed best in their respective roles, with a 4-3-3 formation coming this week!

GK – Jaume (Valencia)
Jaume was one of several goalkeepers to keep clean sheets this weekend, but as he would only set you back 2.5m on the Euro Fantasy League game he was the cheapest of the bunch. Solid display in Valencia’s 0-0 home draw with Real Betis.

DF - Miguel Layún (Villarreal)
Layún was La Liga’s top defender last weekend, earning himself seven points in his first start of the season as Villarreal won 1-0 at Leganes. That first start coincided with his side’s first win of the campaign, so could fortunes be about to turn for the better?

DF - Abdoulaye Ba (Rayo Vallecano)
Among a host of defenders to earn five points this weekend, Ba  was the lowest priced at just 4m. Rayo’s 1-0 win at Huesca could prove a hugely important three points on the road, with the club now sitting level on points with Valencia near the danger zone but with a game in hand.

DF - José Gayá (Valencia)
Valencia have had a tough start to the new season, and sit just above the relegation zone. Gayá’s performance was crucial as Los Che drew 0-0 at home against Betis – their third draw from four games, hence the lowly position. Gayá and co need to improve – on an individual level, this was a great start.

DF - Damián Suárez (Getafe)
Suárez gets into this list on sheer merit – Getafe’s clean sheet in their impressive 2-0 win at Sevilla was in no small part thanks to the contributions of the Uruguayan right-back. The result leaves them fifth after four games.

MF - Gianelli Imbula (Rayo Vallecano)
The top midfielder in La Liga this weekend, Imbula  began life in Spain’s top flight solidly on his first start. The 26-year-old, on loan from Championship side Stoke, picked up six points from Rayo’s 1-0 win at Huesca – two for the clean sheet and four for scoring the only goal of the game.

MF - Jony (Alaves)
The 5m-rated midfielder picked up four points this weekend, scoring two for the clean sheet in Alaves’ 1-0 win at Real Valladolid and another two for providing the assist for one of the goals. The outcome also doubled his tally for the season as he now sits on eight.

MF - Sofiane Boufal (Celta Vigo)
Boufal picked up for points as well, despite Celta Vigo losing 3-2 at Girona in arguably the best match of the latest round on Monday evening. He scored one of Celta’s goals and while it may have proven in vain on the night, it could be more important in the long run.

ST - Ángel (Getafe)
Ángel may set you back 7.5m, but he has taken his season tally up to 12 fantasy points thanks to scoring both goals in Getafe’s 2-0 win at Sevilla.

ST - Cristhian Stuani (Girona)
The former Middlesbrough striker makes it onto this list not for the first time this season, and he was the joint-best forward in La Liga along with Ángel. Stuani scored two of Girona’s goals in that thrilling 3-2 win at home against Celta Vigo.

ST - Sergi Enrich (Eibar)
Enrich scored the goal which earned Eibar a point at Atletico Madrid, bagging himself four fantasy points in the process. That goal was a vital one which played a pivotal part in arguably Eibar’s finest point of the season so far.
