Higuain delighted to remain in Turin

Gonzalo Higuain expressed his satisfaction for staying at the club through the summer in an interview with Sky Sport. He began by addressing the last game against Napoli, where he scored a lovely goal to gave the Old Lady a two-nothing lead in the first half: “It was a thrilling match. We got off to a great start and put our stamp on it, but we had a mental black-out and they rallied back in ten minutes. We always tried to win during the contest, we deserved the three points even though the opponents were unlucky with that late own goal.”

On the transfer market: “I was not told anything in particular when I came back, I just wanted to get to work and prove my value. My wish from the get-go was to stay at Juventus and I am happy about how things unfolded. This is a top team with a great management and a beautiful fan base. I know Turin well and its people are wonderful, I am truly delighted.”

On his number switch: “It was my choice. No.9 was available but I decided to move to #21 to honor the day my daughter was born, in this way it is as if I always carry her with me.”

On the season: “I will have to fight to find room. This year is important to me, we must fight on every front. The last campaign was not easy, but I still scored double-digit goals and we won the Europa League. It is a new year and I will do eveything to help the team succeed.”

On his Juventus debut against Fiorentina: “I came off the bench and netted the game-winning goal. Saturday’s bout will be a tough one, they are strong but we are Juventus and we want to win.”

On reuniting with Cristiano Ronaldo: “We had not played together in years. He was young and he is more complete now, he has improved on every aspect and broke a lot of records. I am happy for being next to him again.”

On the title race: “We are out first enemy. We must carry on this path and try to win, have trust in ourselves and improve day by day.”

On Champions League: “I missed playing in this competition. My last memory is bittersweet, that loss to Real Madrid still burns, but I am happy to return to it with Juventus.”
