Serie A Fantasy Recap – Round Four

Standings implications: Inter stay on top of the table after besting Milan in the Derby, but Juventus and Napoli keep up as the Bianconeri squeaked by Verona and the Partenopei instead deep-sixed Lecce. Roma peeped out in the higher districts with a dramatic victory over Bologna and Lazio are right behind them after breezing past Parma. As they are ones to do, Atalanta clawed back against Fiorentina. Sassuolo handled SPAL at home, while Cagliari soundly defeated Genoa on Friday. Brescia stunned Udinese on the road while Sampdoria are finally on the board after their W over Torino.

Confirmations: Ciro Immobile moved closer to Domenico Berardi in the scorer’s chart with a typical finish beating the offside trap. Fernando Llorente was supposed to play a limited role, but he is having a hell of a week and had two easy ones against Lecce, while Francesco Caputo capitalized on a fantastic day for Sassuolo’s offense to score a brace. Romelu Lukaku bagged his third Serie A goal to seal the Derby, Lorenzo Insigne reached the same number with his second attempt from the penalty spot. Christian Kouame netted his third too but it did not amount to much in Sardinia. Also at three, which is quite stunning, is Aleksandar Kolarov, who found the target with another astounding free kick. Cristiano Ronaldo, Joao Pedro and Nicola Sansone netted their second, Giovanni Simeone his second in a row and he is looking good in Rossoblù. Same number for Marcelo Brozovic, who was helped by a big reflection to beat Gianluigi Donnarumma. Miguel Veloso bagged another stunner from distance, while Marco Mancosu converted a penalty.

Guess who is back: considering how well they were playing, it was only a matter of time before Federico Chiesa and Franck Ribery broke through and they both did against Atalanta, but Josip Ilicic fueled the Goddess’ comeback with his first of the season. Romulo is loving the change of scenery as well as Brescia thrusted him into a big role and he delivered with a very important goal to down Udinese. Alfred Duncan had not scored since last March but he had already provided few assists so far this season. Manolo Gabbiadini gave some life to Sampdoria with a scrappy goal. Fabian Ruiz had not been super effective so far but he showed his class with a bnice curl in Lecce.

Surprise scorers: Adam Marusic is not exactly known to be a strong finisher, but he knocked one past the goalie versus Parma.

Flops of the round: Cristian Zapata scored a key own goal and was part of the blunder that cause Cagliari’s third goal as well. Udinese’s offense struggled mightily sans Rodrigo De Paul in a reasonably easy match-up against Brescia. Torino could not take advantage of the defensive problems Sampdoria had manifested thus far.

Clutch goal: Edin Dzeko scored a very crafted header to win the Bologna game at the buzzer after Roma had gone down to ten men, while Timothy Castagne pipped Fiorentina at the post with his first one of the season.
