Serie A Fantasy Picks – Round 22

ACF Fiorentina v UC Sampdoria - Serie A

Samir Handanovic: Inter are going through a pretty rough stretch offensively, but their defence has for the most part held up and they have not conceded a single goal in their last seven home fixtures. Bologna have been poor offensively thus far, however there is an element of unknown after the coaching change.

Joao Cancelo: he is coming off a phenomenal display in Rome, where he was deployed as right winger. While that he is unlikely to happen again, he has been a weapon also in his usual position and Juventus have the sturdiest back-line in the League, so one of their defenders can still be picked even despite Parma road prowess. He will be eager to redeem himself after a rare dud.  Continue reading

Lazio must make Chelsea’s Davide Zappacosta their January priority

Chelsea v Derby County - Carabao Cup Fourth Round

With the distraction of actual football matches put on hold for two weeks, fans have been left to try and negotiate the maze of transfer speculation that appears without fail at this time of the year.

This can be more of a challenge than it may appear, with scatter-gun reports linking a range of players – young and old, good and bad, from strikers to goalkeepers – to clubs daily.

For Lazio, however, the objective of 2019’s January transfer window is clear: ditch some of the deadwood and fortify the right flank. Continue reading

Serie A Game of the Week – Round 38: Lazio vs Inter

laziointer2

A clear-cut choice this week for game of the week, as Lazio-Inter was simply one of the most dramatic and flat-out best matches of the season and obviously had a lot of stake. The Nerazzurri had just one result to qualify to the next Champions League and they had to win on the road against a team that has arguably performed better all year long. However, showing great character and determination and seizing the opportunities presented to them, they were successful.  Continue reading

Serie A Club of the Week – Lazio

lazio2

Five teams managed to win both games last week: Napoli, Roma, Lazio, Inter, Atalanta and Sassuolo. Only one, the Neroverdi, kept a clean sheet in both occasions but, while their six points are substantial in the relegation race, they scored just twice, therefore giving little to the fantasy managers. All the other sides are very worthy candidates, but let’s give the shout-out to the Biancocelesti, who scored the most goals, eight, and had the toughest schedule.
