Serie A Team of the Week – Round Seven

Alex Meret (7 points): pretty solid goalkeeping by those who earned a clean sheet, Bartlomiej Dragowski and Marco Silvestri in particular, but the nod goes to the Napoli youngster, who managed to parry away a cannon shot by Cristian Ansaldi and exuded confidence throughout the game.

Nikola Milenkovic (9 points): he decided the match against Udinese with a trademark header where he soared in the sky. The switch to a three-man defence has surely helped him.

Cristian Ansaldi (5 points): he is always a big hub even though he plays on the flank and came close to scoring against Napoli. They also held the Partenopei scoreless, which is no small feat.

Francesco Vicari (5 points): he guided SPAL’s back-line with great poise as they stymied Gervinho and company on Saturday, paving the way for a much-needed win.

Giovanni Di Lorenzo (5 points): he barrelled up and down the right flank at will against Torino and has been thoroughly deserving of his first international call-up in the first two months of the season.

Robin Gosens (6 points): he scored his third goal of the season following a very long central triangle with Josip Ilicic and he had also assisted Duvan Zapata on his goal. He has emerged as Atalanta’s best fantasy wing-back in the early season.

Miguel Veloso (4 points): he set up Marash Kumbulla’s header with a pinpoint corner kick and caused Nicola Murru’s own goal with another venomous free kick. He has been a fabulous leader so far.

Alejandro Gomez (4 points): he found the target with laser accuracy, as the ball kissed the post before going in, could have tacked on at least one more or picked up a pair of assists if the teammates were more clinical. He sliced and diced Lecce’s back-line.

Ciro Immobile (8 points): he is back on top of the scorers’ chart after last year’s underwhelming campaign. He added two more goals to his resume in Bologna, hitting the net with impressive precision and he just needs a sliver of in the box to do damage this year.

Duvan Zapata (6 points): another majestic outing by the Colombian striker, who hit the net with a thunderous shot and picked out Alejandro Gomez prior to the second goal.

Paulo Dybala (4 points): he sucker-punched Inter with his first goal of the season with a splendid cross-shot and combined beautifully with Cristiano Ronaldo throughout the game, constantly challenging Inter’s vaunted defence.
