Serie A Fantasy Recap – Round 38

inter

Standings implications: it was a rollercoaster because of the chronological order of the events, but the Champions League race finished in the same way it was entering the round, as Atalanta and Inter were successful and staved off Milan. The Nerazzurri sent Empoli to Serie B as Genoa’s grand plan to wait for the Beneamata to win worked out, as neither them or Fiorentina were interested in attacking in their match. Roma bid farewell to Daniele De Rossi with a W over Parma.

Among the meaningless games, Juventus got beat by Sampdoria, Napoli by Bologna, while Udinese bested Cagliari on the road and Frosinone and Chievo shared the spoils in a nil-nil tie. Continue reading

Serie A Team of the Week – Round 29

vicari

Juan Musso (7 points): a fairly good amount of clean sheets in this round, as seven teams managed to hold the opponent scoreless. Among the goalkeepers that succeeded, Musso had the finest performance, including a superhuman save on a point-blank header where he snatched the ball just before it crossed the goal line.

Francesco Vicari (9 points): his season has been up-and-down and he has often ridden the pine, but he came up big on Sunday, burying a pretty header by masterfully attacking the near post on a corner kick and gifting a very significant win to his side. Continue reading

Standings implications: they did it in opposite fashion, but Juventus and Napoli both took home the full spoils in this round. The Orobici leapfrogged Roma, while Sampdoria now share the eight spot with Torino, which tied in Florence. Cagliari prevailed for the third time in the last four fixtures, this time versus Chievo, and are eight point clear of the 18th spot, which is now occupied by Empoli that have been overtaken by Bologna as result of a dramatic victory. Udinese and SPAL kept their slim lead with Ws against Genoa and Frosinone.

Serie A Fantasy Picks – Round 10

piatek

Salvatore Sirigu: Torino’s defence has had its up-and-downs, but they will face a Fiorentina team that has been lousy on the road and has scored just two away goals so far.

Francesco Vicari: Frosinone have made some progress, but mostly at home and they have been shutout in three of their four road games, so picking the leader of SPAL’s sturdy back-line could be a decent idea.

Pol Lirola: Bologna have yet to find the target away from the Dall’Ara Stadium, while Sassuolo is fresh off a clean sheet versus Sampdoria. The pesky right back could also do some damage on offence.  Continue reading

Coppa Italia/Sampdoria-Viterbese Castrense

Most of the top fantasy players underperformed in week 1, let’s hope for a better performance in this round.

Alban Lafont: the youngster has already drawn rave reviews in Florence after his summer move from Toulouse.  The Viola will host Chievo, which played well against Juventus, but might have some troubles replicating that on the road.

Alex Sandro: Juventus’ back-line will look for improvements after a subpar showing in Verona against Lazio’s always powerful attack, which however sputtered against Napoli. The Brazilian full-back still excelled versus Chievo and provided the decisive assist. Continue reading
