Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno has been linked with a move to Real Madrid for a number of months, and recently the player’s agent gave his two cents on the speculation. The Reds are thin on options in the backline following a season-ended injury suffered by promising left-back Joe Gomez, but Moreno has shone in his absence. The Spaniard fell out of favour under former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, but has been in fine form during Jurgen Kloppp’s reign, and is now reportedly attracting the attention of the La Liga giants.
“If a team as big as Real Madrid spoke to us and Liverpool were happy with the deal, then we could talk about it. If a team as substantial as Real Madrid made an offer, that would be wonderful for him. Big teams in Spain and other places are asking. It’s normal for clubs to ask after such a big player. Everyone knows how important Real Madrid are, but Liverpool have won five European Cups. Liverpool would have to make the first move. He’s delighted (with his form under Klopp at Liverpool, however. He’s learning another culture and playing in one of the biggest leagues, and as a regular starter to boot,” said Moreno’s agent Javier Moya.
Moreno has operated as a combative and attacking fullback proficient at both ends of the pitch. He’s comfortable in possession, and has great distribution with balls into the box from out wide. Boasting excessive pace, Moreno is like a fully-fledged winger when going forward, and has been improving his defensive game. The 23-year-old has recaptured his form for the Reds under Klopp, and has showcased exactly why Liverpool were so keen to sign himin the first place.
Such impressive performances for the Merseysiders has led to interest back in his native Spain, but Moreno has played down any talk of a move. The left-back seems happy with Liverpool this season, but the lure of joining such a prestigious club with a lot of history could be too good to turn down if Los Blancos ever made their interest official. The Spanish giants are also somewhat overstocked in the position, with Marcelo and Nacho having played out on the left this season, while Fabio Coentrao is out on loan to AS Monaco.
Being a young Spanish defender showing a lot of promise will make Moreno an attractive proposition for the likes of Real Madrid, so could there be movement when the January transfer window opens, or perhaps the following summer?
