Barcelona go into this weekend’s La Liga action as table-toppers and with them played one game more than old rivals Real Madrid, there is absolutely no margin for error. We take a look at 5 midfielders who should be in among the points this weekend. Roberto Soriano of Villarreal, Ivan Rakitic and Rafhina of Barcelona, Real Madrid midfielders James Rodríguez and Koke from Atletico Madrid all come under closer inspections.

Roberto Soriano – Villarreal

Roberto Soriano scored last weekend in a 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid and with a home tie this weekend against Sporting Gijon, the midfielder, who has scored 9, assisted 5 and had 12 clean sheets should certainly come under consideration. He is valued at just 3.5M and his price/performance ratio of 17.7 is among the highest in the division.

Ivan Rakitic – Barcelona

Now that Barcelona have reached the top of La Liga, they certainly won’t be giving up their place without a fight. After their dramatic 3-2 win over Real Madrid last weekend they followed up with a 7-1 win over Osasuna during the week. Ivan Rakitic has started 22 matches and has scored 6, assisted 4 and kept 10 clean sheets. That has given him 47 points and a price/performance ratio of 5.4.

Rafinha – Barcelona

Sticking with Barcelona, who face a trip to Espanyol this weekend, Rafinha has started just 14 matches, but he tends to make his minutes on the pitch count. He has scored 6 in those 14 starts and valued at just 5M, he is worth taking a second look at. He has racked up 45 points so far giving him a price/performance ratio of 9.4.

James Rodríguez – Real Madrid

Real Madrid will be disappointed at losing top spot, however, they bounced back quickly with a 6-2 win away to Deportivo la Coruna during the week. With Gareth Bale ruled out through injury, James Rodriguez stepped up and scored twice in that win. He is expensive at 11M, but with a home tie against Valencia, who don’t have much to play for, he should be in among the points here. He has started just 10 matches this season and scored 6, assisted 6 and kept 5 clean sheets.

Jorge R. Koke – Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid will be keen to get back to winning ways after losing at home to Villarreal during the week. They are still in 3rd place and face a trip to Las Palmas this weekend. Jorge R. Koke has scored 4, assisted 6 but his 17 clean sheets have boosted his points total. He is valued at 9M and his price/performance ratio is 6.3.
