La Liga Club Review Goalkeeper – Deportivo La Coruna

prz

Deportivo La Coruna had a dismal season in La Liga and they will be hoping their fortunes improve for the upcoming season. They were involved in a relegation battle throughout the season and finished just 5 points above relegated Sporting Gijon. Defensively, they weren’t too bad (they conceded 61 goals over the season) but their lack of cutting edge up front saw them manage to win only eight games. We take a look at goalkeepers German Darío Lux and Przemyslaw Tyton and how they rated in fantasy football.

German Darío Lux has already bid farewell to Deportivo La Coruna having signed a three-year contract with his home country side River Plate. He didn’t have the greatest final season with Deportivo and in his 25 league starts he conceded 41 goals. He conceded four or more goals in no fewer than 5 matches and conceded six against Real Madrid. He was valued at just 2M, however, even at that value, he finished the season with a price/performance ratio of exactly zero.

Przemyslaw Tyton, who was signed from FC Stuttgart started 12 matches between the sticks for Deportivo and the Polish international keeper hardly created a good impression in the starts he did make. In those 12 matches, he conceded a total of 26 goals and only managed two clean sheets. Deportivo will be hoping for much more from the keeper they pinned their hopes on and with a fantasy football value of 5M, a points return of -17 is a terrible statistic. By the end of the season, his price/performance ratio was a miserable -3.8 and if you are looking for a keeper for the upcoming season, it may be best to give Przemyslaw Tyton a miss.

Goalkeeper Ruben Martinez, who spent the season on loan at Anderlecht has returned to the club, however, it looks unlikely he will feature much in the 2017/18 season. Therefore, a new goalkeeper must be a priority for Deportivo if they want to make a decent fist of the season and avoid a relegation battle like last season.

At the time of writing, no moves have been made to bring someone in, but with approximately seven weeks of the transfer window left, it is surely unthinkable that they will start the new season with just Przemyslaw Tyton and Ruben Martinez as the only two goalkeepers in their squad.
