La Liga Defender Club Review – Deportivo La Coruna

Deportivo Arribas
Deportivo La Coruna spent much of the season battling against the drop and eventually ended the season in the 16th spot with 36 points, five points clear of the bottom three.

A nice run of results in the month of March proved to be enough for their survival in the end. The club from Galicia ended the season with a disappointing run of just two wins in the last 11 league games.

Despite their lowly finish in the league, Deportivo boasted of the best goal difference, -18, in the bottom seven and the third-best defence in the bottom half of the table.

Only once they conceded more than four goals in a game during the entire La Liga season which was quite decent for a club in their position.

Overall, six defenders represented Deportivo in EuroFantasyLeague last season, and surprisingly, none of them finished the season with negative points.

Let’s take a detailed look at how these defenders fared over the course of the season.

Alejandro Arribas with 12 points was the best performing defender for Deportivo in EuroFantasyLeague. The experienced centre-back made 23 league appearances in total and picked up seven clean sheets. The 28-year-old Spaniard, who was available for 4.5m in the market, also provided an assist. His P/P score was nothing spectacular at 3.8.

Portuguese left-back Luisinho finished the season with just seven points. The 32-year-old, who has been with Deportivo since 2013, cost 4m in the market and made 26 league appearances. He was a part of six clean sheets and also helped with a couple of assists. He picked up six yellow cards over the season.

Brazilian centre-back Sidnei was the most-used among all Deportivo defenders as he managed 29 starts during the season. The 27-year-old was available for 4.5million in the market and put together a total of four points. Besides being a part of six clean sheets, he also scored a solitary goal for his side. He was also the most disciplined among Deportivo defenders and picked up just one yellow card.

Laure, who has departed for second-tier side AD Alcorcon this summer, managed just four starts and three appearances from the bench. The 32-year-old was available for 5m and managed just a couple of points. He was a part of two clean sheets and also picked up a red card in the 4-0 defeat at Barcelona in October.

Experienced defender Fernando Navarro accumulated 25 league appearances during the season. The 3.5million-man ended the season with a single point. The former Barcelona and Sevilla player was a part of six clean sheets.

Ignacio Monsalve, who was available for 3m, failed to make an appearance during the season.
