There were a few unexpected contributors in the last Serie A round: here are the top fantasy players of the week.
Alex Cordaz: it is always quite remarkable when Crotone manage to keep a clean sheet, especially on the road, and there were not a lot of those this week. As a result, Cordaz, who had all in all a quiet game against Hellas Verona, got seven points.
Sebastien De Maio: Roberto Donadoni mixed it up this week, giving a chance to Sebastien De Maio and Domenico Maietta over the usual starters Giancarlo Gonzalez and Filip Helander. The move paid off as they did a passable job on the red-hot Massimo Coda and the French centre-back basically sealed the game with the two-nil goal. He was the only defender to gain nine points.
Franck Kessie: eight points for the Milan dynamo, who led the comeback in Cagliari. He was once again perfect from the penalty spot and later on found his first goal on open play with Rossoneri, easily finalizing a nice dish from Nikola Kalinic after a deep cut in the box.
Kalidou Koulibaly: he had his hands full on Sunday, when he went toe-to-toe with Andreas Cornelius in a very physical battle. As it often happens, he had his way and the striker did not have any clear-cut chance. He collected five points and remains one of the most reliable fantasy options in the defence.
Medhi Benatia: Juventus once again got a clean sheet and the contribution of the Moroccan defender certainly helped, especially when Genoa started attacked with some energy in the second half. He had a relatively easy time guarding Goran Pandev, Andrej Galabinov and Gianluca Lapadula.
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic: his amazing season continues and this time the victim was Chievo Verona. He solved the game with a brace, bagging the first goal with a precise finish from outside the box that surprised Stefano Sorrentino, while the second one was a marvellous lefty volley. He was the top midfielder in this round with eight points.
Dries Mertens: after a two-month drought, the Belgian forward resumed scoring and helped his team gain a massive win. After a rather timid first half, he got loose in the second one and dominated the game, making plays all over the pitch. In his goal, he barely beat the offside trap and put it past Etrit Berisha with a precise touch. He amassed six points, thanks to the score and the clean sheet.
Gaston Ramirez: his chemistry with Fabio Quagliarella is scary and he assisted the striker in all three goals with three absolute dimes. The second, where he put it through an opponent’s leg, and the third backheeled one were remarkable.
Andrea Barberis: his early goal paved the way for an all-important win for Crotone. He painted a beautiful trajectory on a distant free kick that opened the score in the first minute. He might be pushed for minutes by the newcomers, but he has been pretty reliable in the last season and a half and his right foot is outstanding.
Fabio Quagliarella: a fantastic hat-trick for the centre-forward, who single-handedly wiped out Fiorentina. All three were typical scores in the box, where he either outmuscled or outwitted the defenders to get open in the box and then kept his cool in front of the goalkeeper. He was the top fantasy players of this week with 14 points.
Simone Verdi: he got the captain armband after his decision to stay at Bologna and once again he put on a show. He assisted all three of his team’s goals, as he sent in the corner kick that Mattia Destro bagged, the free kick that found Sebastien De Maio wide-open and combined with Blerin Dzemaili on a counter for the final goal.
