La Liga Weekend Picks – Round 12

parteyWith a full card of action scheduled in La Liga this coming weekend, let’s take a look at which players are worth consideration for inclusion in your fantasy teams over the next few days. With some nice fixtures coming up such as Sevilla doing battle with Espanyol, Celta Vigo hosting Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid hosting Athletic Bilbao (on Saturday) there will be plenty to keep you entertained between Friday and Sunday, so without further ado we will adopt a 4-3-3 formation this week and get cracking!

GK - Jordi Masip (Real Valladolid)
Masip  has enjoyed a fine campaign so far this season, conceding only nine goals from his 11 starts, amassing 28 points in the process. Valladolid’s tight back line will be tested by midtable Eibar, but Masip and co. should be able to get the job done here.

DF - Gerard Pique (Barcelona)
Barcelona may have battled to their 3-2 win at Rayo Vallecano last weekend, but next up they host Real Betis at the Nou Camp. Betis are among the league’s lowest goalscorers this season, so Pique and the rest of the defenders will be hoping for a clean sheet.

DF - Damián Suárez (Getafe)
Suárez will be looking for a solid performance as Getafe host Valencia, who are the outright lowest goalscorers with just seven successful strikes so far this season. Getafe are still within touching distance of the top six, so will be aiming for a solid outing.

DF - Sergio Akieme (Rayo Vallecano)
Rayo Vallecano’s defence have had a nightmare this season, with Akieme the only player in positive fantasy points – and even then, it is only one. However, they host struggling Villarreal at home and so have a chance to get their season moving.

DF - Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid)
Real too have had a disappointing start to the season, which has already seen Julen Lopetegui sacked. Ramos has done fairly well for the team, however, and this weekend’s trip to Celta Vigo will be tricky, but it is a game the Spaniard will be confident for.

MF - Thomas Partey (Atletico Madrid)
Partey has been struggling to get some fantasy points under his belt in recent weeks, but the home game against Athletic Bilbao offers an opportunity to put in a shift and improve hi standing with fantasy managers this season.

MF -  Sofiane Boufal (Celta Vigo)
Celta star Boufal has done fairly well in his four starts this season, accruing 13 points (though some have come in his five appearances as a sub of course). The home game against Real Madrid will be tough of course, but if he can make a good account of himself here he could go on to have a fine season indeed.

MF - David López (Espanyol)
López has had a decent start to the season, weighing in with his own contribution as the side sit second in La Liga. This weekend they have a tough trip to third-placed Sevilla, but a good performance here would help them immensely with Atletico Madrid and Alaves still breathing down their necks.

ST - Luis Suarez (Barcelona)
The highest points-scoring striker in La Liga so far this season, Suarez  will be hoping to get his eye in as Barcelona host Real Betis. This is a game the league leaders will be expecting to win, so the Uruguayan could help himself to a goal or two this weekend.

ST - Ibai Gomez (Alaves)
Gomez will be chomping at the bit to get a goal or two this weekend as well, with high-flying Alaves going up against basement side Huesca. With the visitors possessing the joint-worst defensive record in the league so far, Gomez and his colleagues will be confident.

ST - Raúl de Tomás (Rayo Vallecano)
It may seem strange to include a striker for a side in the relegation mire here, but with Vallecano welcoming Valencia the hosts will be desperate to get a result to make up some ground. Valencia’s defence isn’t bad despite their league position however, so this game could come down to the odd goal – if de Tomas can hit the net that could be the difference.
