Serie A Injury and Suspension Report – Round 1

Atalanta: Josip Ilicic is a suspended, while Luis Muriel is sick, which will cost him a place in the XI but not the call-upTimothy Castagne had surgery to remove a torn meniscus and should miss the first two games.

Bologna: Jerdy Schouten picked up a knee sprain in the pre-season but he has recovered enough to be called up. 

Brescia: Mario Balotelli is disqualified for the first four fixtures, while Ales Mateju will sit out just the first one for the same reason. Emmanuel Ndoj is dealing with an ankle injury that will cost him some time. Andrea Cistana missed the recent Coppa Italia game for a similar, but smaller, issue, but could be back for the opening match. Daniele Dessena, Daniele Gastaldello have recovered from small injuries, while Giangiacomo Magnani and Ernero Torregrossa have been ruled out. 

Cagliari: Marko Rog is suspended, while Alessio Cragno sprained his right shoulder, an issue that could keep him out for a while, but the timetable will be clearer when he will be re-evaluated in about a week. Paolo Faragò is rehabbing after April’s hip surgery. Federico Mattiello made the squad list after the recent muscular problems, while Filip Bradaric and Fabrizio Cacciatore have not. 

Fiorentina: Pol Lirola had to bow out from the last Coppa Italia fixture, but it was just a bruise and he has good chances to be available.

Genoa: Kevin Agudelo is suspended, Stefano Sturaro is on the mend after tearing his ACL in May, while Riccardo Saponara is out with a recent thigh strain. Domenico Criscito has had the flu but should be able to feature. Francesco Cassata has been unable to recuperate from a recent shoulder sprain. 

Inter: Diego Godin is poised to miss the Lecce bout with a thigh (rectus femoris) pull. Valentino Lazaro (thigh) got hurt at the end of July but he is close to a full recovery.

Juventus: Marko Pjaca (knee) and Mattia Perin (shoulder) will both be out of commission for considerable time. Daniele Rugani has been ruled out due to transfer market negotiations, while Aaron Ramsey will stay in Turin to get better physically after rehabbing the whole summer. 

Lazio: Manuel Lazzari broke his hand last week, but he might give it a go wearing a brace despite the short turnaround from the surgery. Lucas Leiva is fatigued and Felipe Caicedo has a sore calf, but they have been called upSergej Milinkovic-Savic has shaken off a hip injury that bugged him recently. Jordan Lukaku sat out almost the whole summer due to knee injuries. Jony should not be availble due to a fee dispute between Lazio and Malaga.

Lecce: Biagio Meccariello underwent arthroscopic surgery last week and will likely miss a month. Matteo Mancosu has been nagged by a calf injury for some time and will be limited even if available. Simone Lo Faso and Riccardo Fiamozzi are out with last-minute issues. 

Milan: Theo Hernandez will be forced to skip the first two fixtures due to an ankle sprain, while Mattia Caldara will not be back before mid-October due to an ACL rupture. Lucas Biglia picked up a thigh ailment on Friday and will not be available, like Pepe Reina. 

Napoli: Arkadiusz Milik has been dealing with some tightness for few days and will not make the trip to Florence.

Parma: Juraj Kucka has an achy calf that might hold him out.

Roma: Leonardo Spinazzola pulled a muscle in the left thigh and will sit the first game. Diego Perotti picked up a late muscular hiccup and is at risk. 

Sampdoria: Fabio Depaoli is suspended, while Gonzalo Maroni sprained his ankle, but avoided major injuries so he should be sidelined just for a couple of weeks. Jakub Jankto is not 100 percent fit.

Sassuolo: Domenico Berardi and Francesco Magnanelli are disqualified. Alfred Duncan and Marlon are banged up.

SPAL: Mohamed Fares recently tore his ACL and will be on the mend for five-to-six months.

Torino: Iago Falque has been out for a while with a severe left ankle sprain and he should not be ready in time, like Lyanco, who has been nursing a muscular problem. Simone Edera should come back in mid-October from shoulder surgery. Andrea Belotti has a bruised knee but it should be nothing serious. 

Udinese: Hidde Ter Avest and Giuseppe Pezzella are dinged up but not have not entirely been ruled out yet.

Verona: Luigi Vitale and Samuel Di Carmine are suspended. Emmanuel Badu is out indefinitely with a pulmonary microembolism. Salvatore Bocchetti is on the shelf with an small muscular injury, but he should be back shortly. Lee is out as well.
