Serie A Injury and Suspension Report – Round 14

Atalanta: Luis Muriel and Hans Hateboer subbed off due to knocks on the knee in Champions League, but there is optimism they will be able to play Saturday. Duvan Zapata flew to Spain for further check-ups on his thigh and will remain sidelined. Rafael Toloi is suspended. Simon Kjaer has been ruled out due to fatigue. 

Bologna: Mattia Destro is improving after his knee problem and could be called up, while Mitchell Dijks (toe) and Roberto Soriano (knee) are having troubles absorbing edemas. The midfielder is actually at risk of missing all the December games. Federico Santander is nursing a thigh strain.

Brescia: Alfredo Donnarumma is banged up and, while he should be available, he might not start. Mario Balotelli is back after last week’s coach’s decision. 

Cagliari: Robin Olsen was handed a four-game suspension after his scuffle with Gianluca Lapadula and Fabrizio Cacciatore is disqualified as well. Luca Pellegrini has healed from his ankle sprain, while Luca Ceppitelli is iffier due to the plantar fasciitis that plagued him recently.

Fiorentina: German Pezzella underwent facial surgery because of a fracture and he is slated to be out for 20 days. Federico Chiesa will miss another one with an adductor issue. 

Genoa: Lukas Lerager and Cristian Zapata have been ruled out with last-minute muscular problems. 

Inter: Nicolò Barella required knee surgery to remove a loose cartilage fragment and will be on the mend until January. Stefano Sensi is unlikely to be back from his thigh problem, while Kwadwo Asamoah has more chances after dealing with knee soreness. Roberto Gagliardini (thigh) returned midweek.

Juventus: Alex Sandro is trending positively after a thigh injury and might be able to play, while Adrien Rabiot is a little behind. Douglas Costa will be out two weeks with a semitendinosus muscle strain in the right thigh. Cristiano Ronaldo came back versus Atletico Madrid. Sami Khedira will get a routine day off as a prevention protocol for his left knee. 

Lazio: Adam Marusic is close to returning from a thigh strain, but not totally sure yet. Jordan Lukaku’s knee swelled up over the last few days. Patric picked up a thigh problem in the Europa League game. 

Lecce: Gianluca Lapadula was hit with a two-game suspension. Khouma Babacar should be back from muscle fatigue, while Marco MancosuBiagio Meccariello and Zan Majer, all dealing with thigh ailments, are doubtful despite being called up. Filippo Falco made the squad list after an MCL sprain. 

Milan: Leo Duarte suffered a heel fracture at the point of the insertion of the Achilles tendon and will miss three-to-four months. Samu Castillejo, Fabio Borini (thigh) and Ricardo Rodriguez are back in the squad list, while Lucas Paqueta has been ruled out with a late ailment. 

Napoli: Lorenzo Insigne has shaken off an elbow bruise. Arkadiusz Milik is progressing from his weird abdominal injury, but this week might be too early for him and Faouzi Ghoulam (thigh). Allan has been ruled out with a ribs infraction. 

Parma: Gervinho has recovered from his thigh strain, while Matteo Scozzarella sustained a calf one and will be on the shelf for three weeks. Roberto Inglese (ankle) will miss another game, while Yann Karamoh (knee) is unlikely to be back before the new year, while Andreas Cornelius re-joined the rest of the group on Friday after a thigh strain. 

Roma: Nicolò Zaniolo is suspended. Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Nikola Kalinic came back for the Europa League game. Javier Pastore is questionable due to a hip problem, Alessandro Florenzi because of a calf ailment.

Sampdoria: Fabio Quagliarella shook off a knock on the ankle, while Edgar Barreto and Fabio Depaoli (ankle) are doubtful and Andrea Bertolacci (thigh), Federico Bonazzoli (thigh) and Bartosz Bereszynski (knee) will be sidelined for a while.

Sassuolo: Rogerio is close to coming back from a meniscus tear, but not quite ready yet. Gianmarco Ferrari suffered a late setback last week in his recovery from a thigh injury and they will probably have to go another week without him, Vlad Chiriches and Domenico Berardi, all nursing the same problem. Andrea Consigli is banged up. 

SPAL: Simone Missiroli is suspended. Federico Di Francesco suffered another thigh strain and his 2019 is over. Gabriel Strefezza is trying to shake off a quad contusion.

Torino: Andrea Belotti’s availability will go down to the wire after a blow to the chest, even though he avoided major injuries. Kevin Bonifazi is finally back after a hand fracture, while Diego Laxalt recovered quickly from a thigh strain. Iago Falque (thigh) and Lyanco (knee) will instead be out of commission for a while.

Udinese: Mato Jajalo is suspended, while Ken Sema is trying to recover from muscle fatigue.

Verona: Miguel Veloso and Marash Kumbulla are nearing a return from their strains, but they are both not locks for this week. No changes as far as their long-term injured players are concerned (Emmanuel Badu, Daniel Bessa, Ludomir Tupta).
