EPL Weekend Picks – Week 31

vardyWith a reduced run of fixtures in the Premier League this coming weekend owing to FA Cup Sixth Round action, there are only ten teams from which to take this week’s weekend picks. Burnley do battle with Leicester and West Ham take on Huddersfield in Saturday’s other games, while Sunday’s earlier game sees Fulham welcome Liverpool to Craven Cottage. Taking all of that into account, let’s adopt a 4-3-3 this time and see which players could be set to work their way into fantasy management consideration.

Fenway Sports Group need to capitalise on Liverpool’s momentum

fenwayLiverpool have made a wonderful start to the new Premier League season, sitting atop the table on goal difference after picking up 12 points from their first 12. Chelsea and Watford have also won all four of their openers, but Liverpool’s style of play and constant goal threat seems to be setting them aside from the other two at the top. Champions Man City are fancied to retain their title of course, but are two points behind the Reds at this moment in time. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has developed an exciting atmosphere around the club, and if Anfield is to welcome its first English top flight title since 1990 then the momentum needs to be maintained. While it may not happen this year, there is also every chance that it could – but only if the club’s owners Fenway Sports Group are prepared to back their manager to lead the team to glory.

Robertson continues to excel for Liverpool

Robertson

The enormous quality of Liverpool’s marauding left-back, Andrew Robertson, was once again on show as the Scot was excellent in the Reds’ 3-0 destruction of Bournemouth.

Brimming with his customary enthusiasm, the 24-year-old got up and down his flank with remarkable vigour and stamina, fulfilling his duties on both sides of the ball with the utmost competency.

Exerting himself fully on the defensive end, he tracked runners attentively, made excellent decisions when to respond to pressing triggers (such as when an opponent received possession in an open body orientation or with their back to goal plus when they made a sloppy first touch) or hold his position as well as when to crossover a marking assignment.
