Rayo Vallecano’s 1-0 win over Real Madrid in Vallecas sparked epic scenes in the crowd at full time, as they beat their city rivals in La Liga for the first time 22 years.
However, more importantly, it gives Paco Jemez’s side a real chance of staying in the top flight – with the confidence that result can give.

Michel’s side are now without a win since September 14th, away at Huesca, which has been their only victory of the La Liga season.
Inconsistency has dogged the side from the start of the season, with the results that do not match the performance becoming the hallmark of their campaign.
This past weekend saw a couple of cracking games in La Liga, with Real Betis and Celta Vigo fighting out a thrilling 3-3 draw while Barcelona earned a hard-fought victory at Rayo Vallecano, triumphing 3-2. That win means the Catalans retain their three point lead over local rivals Espanyol at the top of La Liga, while Vallecano are four points adrift from safety, sitting second bottom.
