La Liga Best XI – Week 11

ponsThis past weekend saw a couple of cracking games in La Liga, with Real Betis and Celta Vigo fighting out a thrilling 3-3 draw while Barcelona earned a hard-fought victory at Rayo Vallecano, triumphing 3-2. That win means the Catalans retain their three point lead over local rivals Espanyol at the top of La Liga, while Vallecano are four points adrift from safety, sitting second bottom. With that in mind, let us now take a look at which 11 players performed the respective roles the best in La Liga this weekend.

GK - Tomás Vaclik (Sevilla)
The 29-year-old Czech Republic international seemed to finally get his season going with Sevilla’s clean sheet in their goalless draw at Real Sociedad. That takes his tally for the season to 10 points, but the mometum could be vital moving forward.

DF - Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid)
Ramos was the best defender in La Liga this past weekend as Los Blancos beat Real Valladolid 2-0 at the Bernabeu. The Spaniard scored one of Real’s goals and earned five for the clean sheet to attain a total of nine points for the weekend.

DF - Dídac Vilá (Espanyol)
Espanyol kept pace with league leaders Barcelona by beating Athletic Bilbao 1-0 at home, and Vilá provided the assist for the only goal. Couple that with the five for the clean sheet and he finished on seven for the weekend.

DF - Jonas Ramalho (Girona)
Ramalho was able to help his Girona side to a clean sheet as they won 1-0 at Valencia, but being priced at just 2.5m means he was among the biggest bargains from La Liga defenders this past weekend.

DF - Daniel Carriço (Sevilla)
Carriço rounds off the best of La Liga’s defenders this weekend, having helped his teammates to a 0-0 draw at Real Sociedad. The five points earned from this outing takes his season tally to just eight, and hopefully could prove to be a springboard.

MF - Pere Pons (Girona)
The second Girona player to feature on this list, Pons nabbed the only goal of the game in that 1-0 win at Valencia. He now has 12 for the season, and so for the 4.5m-rated player his six from the weekend could be a real turning point.

MF - Joan Jordán (Eibar)
Jordán contributed to Eibar’s cause massively this past weekend, scoring one goal and providing the assist for the other as the hosts overcame visiting Alaves 2-1. That game gives him a total of 13 points for the season so far.

MF - Jose Pozo (Rayo Vallecano)
Despite Rayo Vallecano narrowly losing out 3-2 at home against Barcelona, Pozo put in a fine performance indeed. He scored one of the goals in that game as well, giving him a total for the weekend of four points – not bad against the league leaders!

MF - Manu García (Alaves)
Alongside the aforementioned Jordán is one of his opponents that afternoon, Alaves midfielder Manu Garcia. Garcia scored the visitors’ only goal of the game, taking him to a total of 13 points for the season.

ST - Maximiliano Gomez (Celta Vigo)
The only player on this list from that thrilling 3-3 draw between Real Betis and Celta Vigo, Gomez  scored two of the visitors’ goals to earn a weekend tally of eight points, giving him a whopping 32 for the season to date.

ST - Luis Suarez (Barcelona)
Much like Gomez, Suarez himself bagged a brace in Barcelona’s 3-2 win at Rayo Vallecano. His eight points for this weekend give him a season tally of 44 so far, and with Barca scoring goals for fun at times he looks like continuing to have a great season.
