The La Liga is already six game weeks old, and the league table has begun to take a normal order. The biggest surprise this season has been Real Madrid’s poor start to the new season. Los Blancos have managed just eleven points from their opening six games, and they are placed sixth on the table.
On the other hand, Barcelona are yet to drop a point this season and have cemented themselves at the summit with 18 points, and a huge goal difference of 18. Atletico Madrid are Barca’s nearest competitor and they are four points behind in the second spot.
Sevilla and Valencia occupy the next two places in the league table respectively. Atletico might be the distant second in the table, but their midfielders have been the best-performing ones in the opening weeks. Angel Correa has made a spectacular start to the new season. The 22-year-old is valued at just 4m in the market, but he has already put together 19 points this season. In six league appearances, the Argentinean has scored three goals and has provided one assist. He has also been a part of three clean sheets for Diego Simeone’s side.
Yannick Carrasco is the next Atletico midfielder on our list. The Belgian winger is level on points with Correa at 18. However, the 24-year-old is slightly expensive at 8.5m in the transfer market. In six appearances for Simeone’s side, Carrasco has scored three goals and provided a couple of assists. He has also picked up a total of three yellow cards already this season.
Jorge Koke is the last Atletico midfielder on our list. He is not far behind his teammates with 18 points. However, he is even more expensive than Carrasco and costs 9m in the market. The Spaniard has started every league game for Atletico this season, and he has contributed with two goals and two assists. Atletico will be favourites to win at Leganes on Saturday night, and Koke would definitely be included in Simeone’s starting eleven.
Denis Suarez of Barcelona is the name on this list. It’s remarkable for Sanchez to be on this list as out of his five appearances, only one has come as a start. The 24-year-old has managed to score two goals and provide a single assist in his limited opportunities. He has 16 points, and he is reasonably priced at 4m in the market.
Barca’s summer-signing Paulinho is another surprise on this list. He was a very low-key sign for the Catalan club, but the Brazilian has made an instant impact upon his arrival. He has made five appearances, including only two starts, and has scored a couple of goals and provide one assist. The 8.5m-man has put together 16 points.
