Serie A Best Team to Pick – Round 22

Some familiar names and some new faces in the list of the suggested players to pick ahead of the next Serie A matchday.

José Reina: Bologna have a decent attack, but Napoli have the best scoring defence in the League and have kept three straight clean sheets. The goalie has answered the bell when he was asked to.

Medhi Benatia: Juventus have not conceded in seven of their last eight matches and the sturdiness of centre-back duo has been one of the main reasons why. Furthermore, Chievo are expected to be without their main scoring threat Roberto Inglese.

Armando Izzo: before the Juventus game, Genoa had not allowed a single goal in over 400 minutes. The defender has had some truly strong performances this season and his team will take on Udinese, who are fading a little after a spectacular December.

Davide Astori: he was sorely missed in the Sampdoria game, when he was forced to sit out because of a suspension. He will return on Sunday as Fiorentina will take on Verona and their perplexing attack that has scored only once in the last four games.

Dries Mertens: he bagged one in Bergamo and that proceeded to have a fantastic second half, where he looked like his dominating self from the earlier part of the season. Top clubs have often piled on goals on Bologna this year.

Adrian Stoian: Crotone will try to build on the monster win they got against Verona and they will have a decent chance as they will host a very depleted Cagliari side that will be without Leonardo Pavoletti, Joao Pedro, Nicolò Barella and Marco Sau. Ahmad Benali and Federico Ricci gave some zing the Zenga’s XI and Stoian scored on a pitch-perfect counter.

Iago Falque: he did not score against Sassuolo, but he was once again very active. The Granata will host Benevento, who have yet to collect a single point on the road so far and have already conceded 22 goals in 10 away matches.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic: there is not much more to be said about the Serbia supernova, who scored a terrific brace against Chievo and is now up to seven goals in Serie A. The next game is not easy, as they will face Milan at San Siro, but at this point he transcends the match-up.

Douglas Costa: he showed up in a big way against Genoa, scoring the game-winning goal and making a lot of plays, especially in the first half. He will once again carry the load from the creativity standpoint against Chievo with Juan Cuadrado and Paulo Dybala sidelined by injuries.

Mauro Icardi: he has been Inter’s lone spark in the last two months and he has continued to score even in matches where he was not fed a lot. Spal gave up four goals to Ciro Immobile recently.

Giovanni Simeone: Fiorentina will try to bounce back after a very disappointing result against Sampdoria and they will have an excellent chance against the struggling Verona, which have lost four in a row and have the second-worst defence in the league. El Cholito has scored in the last two home games against Inter and Milan.
