Some of the top players are at risk of missing the next Serie A round. Here are the updates.
Napoli: Dries Mertens sprained an ankle in the last game. The problem is not overly serious and the player is pushing to play, but it is not certain that he will be in the starting XI. Raul Albiol could miss the Lazio fixture because of a muscular ailment that he has been dragging for a while now. Elseid Hysaj is under the weather and does not have much time to recover. Josè Callejon had the flu earlier in the week, but his availability is not in danger. Arek Milik and Faouzi Ghoulam are working their way back from ACL tears.
Juventus: Blaise Matuidi suffered an adductor strain against Sassuolo and will be sidelined for about a month. Douglas Costa has been called up, so he is good to go after missing one game with a sore calf. Paulo Dybala needs a little more time to come back from a hamstring strain, while the status of Benedikt Howedes remains murky.
Lazio: the team has suspended Felipe Anderson for lashing out at Simone Inzaghi. The only injured player is still Davide Di Gennaro. Stefan De Vrij has had some muscle fatigue but he should be good to go.
Inter: Mauro Icardi was expected to come back after missing one game due to a pulled hamstring, but it appears he has had a little hiccup late in the week, so his status is uncertain.
Roma: Radja Nainggolan and Lorenzo Pellegrini are suspended. Daniele De Rossi has been dealing with a calf injury for a while now and he is again questionable. Maxime Gonalons and Patrik Schick are not expected to return this week from their hamstring problems, the newcomer Jonathan Silva is nursing a MCL sprain, but he should come back fairly soon. Edin Dzeko has apparently a nagging muscular injury, but he could play.
Atalanta: Mattia Caldara and Alejandro Gomez missed the last game because of small problems, but they practiced with the rest of the group this week. With the Borussia Dortmund bout coming up, they will err on the side of caution and neither is in the squad list. Caldara Luca Rizzo needs time to come back from a severe hamstring injury.
Milan: Nikola Kalinic has a sore groin and is out for Saturday. Davide Calabria is suspended, while Andrea Conti and Marco Storari remain out.
Udinese: Ali Adnan still has ways to go before returning from a hamstring strain and his replacement Giuseppe Pezzella missed time this week because of some muscular pain. Silvan Widmer is dinged up but available. Danilo is suspended.
Torino: Mbaye Niang caught the flu but he is expected to be ready. Tomas Rincon and Joel Obi were taken out of the last game because of some hamstring muscle fatigue and a hip contusion respectively, but they could recover. Adem Ljajic is dealing with back pain. Lorenzo De Silvestri needed surgery because of a nose fracture, but he is set to play with a mask. Acquah is suspended, Lyanco still out with an ankle sprain.
Fiorentina: Vincent Laurini has a double plantar fascia lesion and will miss the Juventus game.
Bologna: Simone Verdi will return in about three weeks. The newcomer Simone Romagnoli has suffered a hamstring contracture.
Genoa: Armando Izzo suffered a LCL sprain that will keep him out for about a month. It is about the same timeline of Miguel Veloso, who has calf sprain. Aleandro Rosi has a edema in his adductor and will be out this week, like Giuseppe Rossi, who is nursing a hamstring strain. Adel Taarabt has some back pain and he is questionable. Luca Rossettini is suspended.
Cagliari: no injury concerns for Diego Lopez.
Sassuolo: Timo Letschert is the only injured player for the Neroverdi.
Crotone: Mario Sampirisi is set to miss some more time due to the cheekbone fracture he suffered in the penultimate game. Bruno Martella is iffy as well due to an ankle sprain that force him out of the Inter game. Marco Tumminello is in the rehab protocol for an ACL tear. Federico Ricci is not in the squad list.
Spal: Francesco Vicari is suspended. Marco Borriello is still bothered by a calf edema, while the reserves Eros Schiavon and Pa Konate are dealing with a calf strain and a foot fracture. Thiago Cionek has not been called up.
Verona: Alessio Cerci is at least a couple of weeks away from returning from a second hamstring strain. Mattia Zaccagni and Matteo Bianchetti are still going through their long-term issues.
Benevento: other than Luca Antei, who is out for the year, a clean bill of health for the Sanniti, who are hoping Bacary Sagna will be ready to contribute soon after not playing for six months.
