La Liga Weekend Picks – Round 4

oblak2Two weekends ago, Barcelona recorded a massive 8-2 victory over Huesca and Celta Vigo earn an impressive home win against Atletico Madrid, this weekend’s lineup is shaping up quite nicely. Atletico will be looking to get things back on track as they host Eibar, while Espanyol hosting Levante could be well worth a watch considering both sides’ early season form. Let’s now take a look at which players to keep an eye on in the fourth round of games in the Spanish top flight this weekend.

GK – Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid)
Atleti will have been disappointed with that loss at Celta Vigo, who now find themselves third going into this weekend’s action. If Oblak can regain his composure quickly and take command of his penalty area once again, Eibar may struggle to find a way past him.

DF - Gerard Pique (Barcelona)
The former Man Utd defender actually lost a point last weekend during that big win over Huesca, due to the visitors grabbing two goals. Like Oblak, he will want to get back to his best defensively as the Catalans travel to Real Sociedad.

DF - Mario Hermoso (Espanyol)
Like Pique, Hermoso ended last weekend on negative points, as Espanyol fell 2-1 victims at Alaves. A home game against high-flying Levante may prove a test, but if Hermoso can put in a good performance then that will lay a solid foundation moving forward.

DF - Aissa Mandi (Real Betis)
Mandi was La Liga’s top performing defender last time for fantasy points, picking up seven in Betis’ 1-0 win at home against Sevilla. Their hosts, Valencia, have struggled so far and so eyes will be on Mandi to keep it cool and organised at the back. Speaking of Valencia…..

DF - Daniel Wass (Valencia)
Eyes will be on all of Valencia’s defenders in that home game against Real Betis, but Wass  is the most expensive of theirs at 7m in the Euro Fantasy League game. He needs to work with his team-mates to turn the side’s fortunes around at the back.

MF – Gareth Bale (Real Madrid)
La Liga’s most consistent midfielder so far this season, Bale and his team-mates travel to Athletic Bilbao in a match which while testing, is one Los Blancos should look to win. If Bale can continue his fine early season form, they should achieve that target.

MF - Joaquín Sánchez (Real Betis)
Another Betis player, Joaquin scored the only goal of the game in their 1-0 home win against Sevilla to open his account of fantasy points this season. He will want to carry that momentum into this weekend’s trip to Valencia, too.

MF - Franco Vázquez (Sevilla)
The 29-year-old, who looks set to make his Argentina debut this month having previously represented Italy, has had a solid if unspectacular start to the season, notching up eight points so far. The home game against Getafe should provide an opportunity to add to that.

MF - Enis Bardhi (Levante)
Bardhi has seen an increase in ownership on the Euro Fantasy League game lately, and while he only has four points so far that is a clear sign that fans are enjoying what they are seeing. Levante visit Espanyol on Sunday.

ST - Maximiliano Gomez (Celta Vigo)
Gomez has had a strong start, with 12 points so far this season. Six of those came last weekend in the win over Atletico Madrid, where he scored one and set up the other. If he can do similar damage at Girona on Monday, his confidence will be soaring.

ST - Lionel Messi (Barcelona)
Last weekend’s top La Liga forward, Messi is in scintillating form as usual. Barcelona’s trip to Real Sociedad mean he will have an real eye on scoring a couple, potentially adding to his 20 points already accrued this season.
