La Liga Best XI – Week 8

navarroEstadi Montilivi was the place to be seen in La Liga this past weekend, with Girona losing at home against Eibar in a five-goal thriller. Brazilian forward Charles had given the visitors the lead from the penalty spot, before two goals from Cristhian Stuani late in the first half briefly turned the game in the hosts’ favour. Anaitz Arbilla levelled up deep into injury time, before a second half goal from Sergi Enrich allowed the guests to leapfrog Girona in the table, shooting up to 12th. Elsewhere, Alaves recorded a hugely impressive 1-0 home win over Real Madrid, while Barcelona were held at Valencia. Let’s take a look, then, at the best XI from La Liga from the eighth round of games!

GK - Jordi Masip (Real Valladolid)
Masip was one of a few keepers to earn a clean sheet of course, but at just 5m he was the cheapest to do so. Valladolid earned a 1-0 win at home against Huesca to climb to seventh in the table.

DF - Toño (Levante)
Toño bagged himself five fantasy points for a 4.5m price tag, meaning he was the joint-least-expensive defender in La Liga to do so this past weekend. That was from the clean sheet as Levante won 1-0 at Getafe.

DF - Ximo Navarro (Alaves)
Worthy of a place in the side on merit alone, Navarro’s Alaves beat visiting Real Madrid 1-0 to impress the neutrals hugely. At 4.5m Navarro ties alongside Toño as a low investment for a great return this weekend.

DF - Nacho (Real Valladolid)
Nacho is becoming a bit of a regular on these La Liga lists! Valladolid’s 1-0 home win against Huesca piled the pressure on the La Liga newboys, but helped the hosts up to seventh as mentioned previously. Once again, five points for a 4.5m investment.

DF - Jonathan Silva (Leganes)
A pinch more expensive at 5m, Silva earned himself five points as well from Leganes’ 1-0 home win over Real Vallecano. That result sees Vallecano drop to second bottom, while Leganes climb to 18th – still in trouble, but that was a game they needed to win.

MF - Angel Correa (Atletico Madrid)
Correa helped Atleti to within a point of the top of the league this weekend, earning himself six points in the process. Barcelona’s draw coupled with Sevilla’s win means the Madrid outfit are now on 15, just behind Sevilla’s 16. Scored the only goal as Atleti beat Betis 1-0.

MF - Manu García (Alaves)
The second Alaves player to get onto the list this week, García earned himself four points (for a 6m price tag) by scoring the only goal of the game in that 1-0 win over Los Blancos. He also earned two points for the clean sheet, taking his total to six.

MF - Enis Bardhi (Levante)
Bardhi becomes the second Levante star on the list as well, with his six points coming the exact same way as fellow midfielder García’s. Their 1-0 win at Getafe was a solid performance, so more of that could see a much better season for the club this time out.

MF - Sarabia (Sevilla)
Another regular on this list, Sarabia’s Sevilla moved to the top of La Liga with their 2-1 home win against Celta Vigo. Barcelona’s draw allowed them to leapfrog the Catalans, with Sarabia’s contribution being a goal and an assist – a solid outing.

ST -  Mikel Oyarzabal (Real Sociedad)
Oyarzabal bagged himself eight points (at 8m) by scoring two of Sociedad’s three goals as they won 3-1 at Athletic Bilbao. That result takes them up to ninth, and condemned Bilbao to just a single goal above the relegation zone.

ST – Cristhian Stuani (Girona)
Despite being on the losing side Stuani makes the list by scoring both of Girona’s goals in that 2-3 home defeat to Eibar. That takes his tally for the season to 30 – behind only Lionel Messi in the whole of La Liga strikers so far this season.
